CAPT. JOHN4 SELLECK (DAVID1)1 was born 21 April 1643 in Boston, MA2, and died Aft. 1689 in an unknown place, perhaps at sea. He married SARAH LAW3 28 October 1669 in Stamford, CT4, daughter of RICHARD LAW and MARGARET KILBOURNE. She died 08 November 1732.

John Selleck married Sarah Law, a sister of Abigail Law the wife of John's brother Jonathan. Sarah and Abigail were the daughters of the Hon. Richard Law who was described by one historian as "a most important Colonial personage."32

16th of January 73 At a towne meeting orderly warned by vote are chosen a comitty, Mr. Holly, Jonathan { } and John Selleck to rune the lines between Stanford and Greenwidge according to court order.33

18th 10mo 1684 The town in answer to ye proposalls of Mr. John Selleck & David Waterbery for ye dameing of Noroton Cove to make medow doe, p vote five & grant unto ye said Selleck & Waterbery & all thair asociates, inhabitants of Staford toas many as shall se cause to enter in to bond wth ye said Selleck & Waterbery, all the said cove & creeks wth in comonly called Noroton Ciove to be thair own proper right for ever & ye said Selleck & Waterbery & asociats joyning wth them are to dame ye said cove wthin ten years or else retorn ye said gift to ye town & all such as intended to joyn in daming ye said cove are to come in to enter into bond by ye first of March next or else to be excluded.38

At a town meeting March 11, 1685, John Selleck was chosen to be a member of a committee "to arive at a loveing & peaceable setlement of ye bounds & lines between" the towns of Greenwich & Stamford.39 [This seemed to be a running problem and was brought up in numerous town meetings before and after this date.]

In 1731 the present line was run between Connecticut and New York leaving the territory north of it in Poundridge, Bedford and North Castle. In 1830, all of that part of the town lying east of the Noroton river was incorporated as Darien. The northeast part of the town was set off as a part of the town of New Canaan in 1860. (Rev. E. B. John Selleck was a merchant and Master of the vessel Brother's Adventure, captured by the French on its way to England. He never returned home.41
1707
John Selleck's estate was not settled until 1708.42
