FHSU Institute for New Media Studies delivers virtual campus to Minnesota

The Institute for New Media Studies at Fort Hays State University worked with St. Cloud, Minn., Technical Community College recently to create an interactive, virtual, reality-based navigation system for college campuses. The project -- a customized information and visualization system -- was created by Dr. Gordon Carlson, director of the institute, and two Fort Hays State students. [Full Story]

 

FHSU Communication Studies Department previews new 3D virtual campus project: Tiger Range

Fort Hays State University students in communication studies and the Institute for New Media Studies will provide a behind-the-scenes look at the 3D virtual campus project, Tiger Range, from 10:30 a.m. to noon on Wednesday, May 11, in Tomanek Hall, room 161. The Institute for New Media Studies hosts open house

On Wednesday, August 26, Fort Hays State University's Institute for New Media Studies kicked off the year with an open house in its new media lab. The four-hour event saw nearly 400 people visit the Institute. [Full Story]

 

Faculty present, serve as panelists at National Communication Association convention

Dr. Gordon Carlson, assistant professor of communication studies, served as an invited respondent on a panel analyzing organizational communication in the media. Carlson provided feedback and expertise to panelists who presented on topics including work and life balance and gender issues as viewed through the lens of popular sitcoms, the issue of exploitation on docudrama television programs, and how the television program "Undercover Boss" strategically uses pop culture to share corporate values with viewers. In addition, Carlson met faculty from across the country to collaborate on strategies in developing scholarship and was extended an invitation to guest lecture at a university in Spain. [Full Story]
