| Coordinator
of Academic Advising and Career Exploration
This position is a 12-month administrative appointment within the
Division of Student Affairs. The coordinator reports to the Director
of the Academic Advising and Career Exploration Center (AACE).
Salary Range: $35,000-$37,000
Start date: June 16, 2008
Requisites for position:
• Master’s degree in related field is required
• 2-3 years of relevant work experience
• Knowledge related to advising and career resources
• Strong skills in the following areas:
Communication (both written and oral)
Advisement
Career exploration
• A teamwork approach that allows for growth, creativity and
an environment that is pleasant for all constituents (faculty, staff,
students, etc.)
Core responsibilities include:
Serve the academic advising program in a manner that is reflective
of the academic advising mission at Fort Hays State University
Undecided student advisement (.5 FTE)
• Coordinate undecided student advisement
• Monitor and evaluate the academic progress of undecided
students
• Refer students to appropriate resources
• Meet with prospective undecided students and parents
• Provide programming for retention of undecided students
• Participate in university wide assessment of academic advising
• Provide assistance to walk-in students
Career exploration (.5 FTE)
• Administer and interpret computer-based vocational assessment
and career exploration programs
• Teach EAC 100 Career Planning and Development each fall
and spring
• Provide major and career exploration
• Maintain the career resource library both hardcopy and online
• Workshops for students regarding career resources available
• Develop and implement faculty advisor development regarding
career information
• Provide assessment of career resources
Secondary responsibilities include:
• Attend Scholarship Recognition Programs
• Meet with each academic department on an annual basis regarding
career information
• Provide and keep current the content for undecided and career
exploration web and hardcopy information
• Contribute to the development of the Academic Advising and
Career Exploration Center through campus committee involvement and
training activities
• Work with director to develop and provide assistance to
faculty, staff, practicum, intern and graduate assistants
• Other duties as assigned
Committee work:
• Active involvement on a minimum of one committee each year
Service in professional organizations:
• Expected to participate and be involved with professional
organizations.
Other opportunities available to coordinator:
• Teach EAC 100 Career Planning and Development online (1
credit hour course)
• Teach EAC 103 Succeeding in College (3 credit hour course)
