Tobacco Policy Task Force

Mission Statement

The Tobacco Policy Task Force will provide leadership for the development, implementation and evaluation of a clear and enforceable tobacco policy and an effective tobacco awareness program for the FHSU community using evidence-based practices that promote wellness, socially responsible, and environmentally conscious practices. Through this process, the Tobacco Policy Task Force will become institutionalized as a University Standing Committee to ensure ongoing compliance and continued institutional support for education, communication, enforcement and evaluation of the policy. The Tobacco Policy Task Force is charged with reviewing and strengthening FHSU’s current tobacco policy and moving the campus forward toward the goal of achieving a tobacco-free campus.

Background

The University has received a grant from the Kansas Health Foundation to assist in the efforts. As part of that grant the University hired Ty Patterson, Director of the National Center for Tobacco Policy, to provide consultation and other services to assist FHSU with this policy initiative. Mr. Patterson was on campus October 20 and 21 engaging with members of the campus community about the process.
