Scheduled Power Outage

WHAT:   Tomanek Hall Power Outage/All FHSU computer/network services to be shutdown
WHEN:   Sunday, Feb. 3  Starting at 6:30 AM until approximately 5:00 PM
WHY:  To install an upgraded electrical transformer and improve overall service

Implications/Tedious details:
RDH Electric has informed us that they will be coming on campus on Sunday, Feb. 3, to shutdown the power to Tomanek Hall at 7:30 AM.  They expect the new installation to take approximately 8 hours, but are hoping that they can have it done in slightly less time.  The CTC Network and Server Administrators will come in and begin shutting down equipment at 6:30 AM (an hour before the power outage).  It takes a fair amount of time to shutdown 100+ servers, and several systems must be shutdown sequentially.   Once power is restored and we get the "Ready" message from RDH Electric, we will begin powering up the FHSU Network and Servers.  Powering equipment up will also need to be done in the proper sequence and will take a bit longer than the power down process.  If RDH takes the full 8 hours to install the new equipment, they will be "Ready" at 3:30 PM.  Based on that, it will take until approximately 5:00 PM to have most of our systems back online again.  Please be aware that in a power outage like this, it is VERY likely that we will have some systems that will encounter problems in being brought back into service.  We will make every effort though to have everything working again as quickly as possible, please be patient.

This means that during this outage, you will not be able to surf the internet from your FHSU office.   You will not be able to access Blackboard from anywhere (on or off campus), you will not be able to access your shared files on the servers (G: drives, H: drives, or whatever).  You will not be able to get to the FHSU Homepage.  You will not be able to access your email.  You will not be able to access CICS.  Anything that requires an FHSU server or network, will not be available.  Additionally, we highly recommend closing out of all files when you leave campus on Friday.  If you do work on Saturday, please close out of all your files when you leave for the day.  Shutting your computer down would not be a bad idea.  Leaving files open on your computer that reside on an FHSU server that is to be shutdown runs a high risk of corruption and making the files unusable.

If you have questions regarding this, please feel free to send me an email.
