Academic Leadership at Fort Hays State University
Professional development of all employees is necessary for the growth of any organization - FHSU included. Over the past few years FHSU has been able to find and develop new talent as new Deans and Chairs. Developing emerging leaders is crucial to their effectiveness, and continuous updating of the knowledge resource of already high contributors produces high performing organizations.
Five years ago a team of Deans and Chairs worked to develop a series of short workshops. The result of those discussions was the Dean and Chair Orientation series. While the Dean and Chair Orientation was primarily designed for new personnel, existing Deans and Chairs found some topics very useful, and they attended many of the sessions. Every effort has been made to make sure that new Deans and Chairs have the information they need before they need it, so timing is everything. The continuing purpose of the Academy of Academic Leadership is to facilitate knowledge sharing of critical administrative processes and to contribute to effective leadership practice.
