May 2013 Italy Study Abroad 

The achievements of men such as Galileo, Leonardo, and Fermi, as well as other great intellectuals graced history through their foundation of science and mathematics. The culture of Italy spurred their creativity and influenced the accomplishments that are so well known today. The Fort Hays State University Science and Mathematics Education Institute (SMEI) will travel to Italy in May of 2013 to experience the sights and historical prevalence of Venice, Florence and other cities. 

Accompanying exploration and historic sightseeing is the opportunity to indulge in culture, all while earning university credits. FHSU Professor Dr. Paul Adams and a designated tour guide will lead this study-abroad experience from May 24 to June 2, 2013. 

For students, the total fee is $4,300, which includes the side trip to Pisa and rooming with three to four other people. The total cost will include round-trip flights; land transportation; a full-time tour director; hotels with private bathrooms; breakfast, five dinners, and the enrollment fee. This can be split into monthly payments.

For adults, 30 years of age and older, who wish to participate in this study-abroad program or accompany students, the total fee is $4,600, which includes the side trip to Pisa and a room supplement for a twin room. 

An optional online course is offered prior to the trip, titled "Following Galileo's Footsteps." Through this course, participants will gain a sense of Italy and its scientific history. Although it is not a requirement for tour participation, it will surely enrich the experience.  The tour itself is a required part of the course, and is available to those in need of graduate credit hours for recertification.
