As our communities and societies become more complex, it is increasingly important that sociological knowledge and skills be used in solving real world problems. This nine credit hour certificate program offers valuable course work and internship experience to students in applied sociology. There are many ways in which applied sociological knowledge and skills are used. For example, sociologists use theory on the community and sociological research knowledge to gauge support for city government activities among various segments of a population. Sociological planning skills can be then employed to implement activities in ways that are most beneficial to a community. There is high demand among local, state, and federal agencies and organizations for intelligent, well-trained individuals with skills in applied sociology.
