Spectacular
temporary exhibitions leased from other institutions bring
educational opportunities to western Kansas that one would
expect to find only in museums located in major cities
such as New York and Chicago. |

Models
of animals for which the museum has fossils depict life
in the sea that covered the Great Plains during the Cretaceous
Period. Kansas was at the bottom of the sea and is one
of the most fossiliferous places in the world. |

The
museum houses one of the nicest Discovery Rooms at any
museum in North America. Everything in the Discovery Room
is intended for hands-on use by interested children and
adults. |

The
lobby of the Sternberg Museum features a phenomenal cast
of a Columbian mammoth as well as the Sternberg Store,
which stocks natural history books and museum-related
items. |

This
greenhouse is a favorite attraction for elementary school
tours. Employees also use the facility to start from seed
many of the flowers that can be seen throughout the campus
each year. |
|
|
This
section of the greenhouse has been set aside for use by
biology and agriculture classes. Faculty and students
are able to research projects related to horticulture
and plant science. |
