Overseas Voting
Brent Emricson, Chief Petty Officer in the United
States Navy, has seen a need to increase the voting efforts of
officers and citizens who are stationed and live on a base in
another country. Brent is currently stationed at a naval base in
Japan. His project began there.
His vision for the project was to get military personnel, families, and
Department of Defense civilians to become more engaged in this year’s
upcoming election. He sees the need for more civic engagement on his
base and
wants there to be more engagement on bases around the world.
The project is a collaborative effort between Brent and the Naval Air
Facility Atsugi Voting Officer, Lieutenant John Mills, as well as the
advertising agents that exist on the base.
Activities will include informing community members of their obligation
to vote, supplying training and publishing information for people to
learn to
register to vote on their base, and instructing citizens on how to obtain
an absentee ballot for the election.
