Do you have an interest in the land and how crops are grown? How often do you wonder where the food we eat comes from? Do you enjoy working with animals or being outside? Are you interested in the economic impact of BSE or H1N1 on the US? Can you see yourself working in a corporate setting, but want to remain connected to your rural roots? If so, a career in the growing field of Agriculture may be the perfect fit for you.
Unlike many Ag programs, you will complete a set of foundational courses that expose you to the breadth and depth of the major, and to help you think about a variety of career options. Then, focus your studies in one of six in-depth academic areas that prepare you for success. Regardless of the program you choose, gain a deeper perspective of agriculture and its significance through the world.
Not only can you learn in the classroom but get your hands dirty as well! Work first-hand with animals and crops at the 3,825 acre FHSU University Farm. This fully-operating farm enables you to gain practical experience through classroom involvement, and to develop management skills as a student employee at one of the production operations.
You can also get involved in Agriculture-related activities through a variety clubs and organizations, whether you’re interested in livestock judging, the rodeo team, or something else entirely.
Your experiences in and outside the classroom will help make you a more marketable employee who is well prepared to meet the agricultural challenges in the years ahead.
