Dr. Jean A. Gleichsner grew up on a dairy farm in Wisconsin where she was
involved in the high school chapter of the Future Farmers of America (FFA) and
4-H. She went on to attend the University of Wisconsin-Madison where she graduated
with highest distinction, receiving B.S. degrees in Agricultural Education (1982)
and Agronomy (1983). She then attended Oregon State University where she earned
both a M.S. and a Ph.D. in Weed Science in 1987 and 1988, respectively. Dr.
Gleichsner joined the Agriculture Department at Fort Hays State University in
1988 as an Assistant Professor and was promoted to Associate Professor in 1994.
Over the years, she has taught ten different courses. She has served as the
Delta Tau Alpha (DTA) Chapter
Co-advisor (1989-93), Chapter Advisor (1993-present) and recently was elected
as the National
DTA Advisor.
She is actively involved in campus and community activities and was recognized
for her service to the College of Health and Life Sciences in 1994, 1999 and
2002. She received the FHSU Outstanding Service Award for Spring 2006. Dr. Gleichsner
served a two-year term (1997-98) as President of the Kansas Association of Colleges
and Teachers of Agriculture (KACTA). She served a two-year term (1997-99) as
Central Regional Director of the North
American Colleges and Teachers of Agriculture (NACTA), Vice-President of
NACTA (1999-2000) and President for NACTA (2000-2001). Dr. Gleichsner served
as President of the Phi Kappa Phi at FHSU (2001-2002) and served as Public Relations
Officer (2002-2004).
