Student Information
Scholarships
The Department of Agriculture provides
an extensive scholarship program for its students. Funds are provided
by individuals and companies interested in supporting agriculture
and who are aware of the financial commitment a student must make
to complete a college education. Department of Agriculture scholarships
range from $100 to $2500 per year.
HOW DO I APPLY?
Complete the Fort Hays State University Scholarship
Application. Select only those scholarships for which you qualify.
You will not be considered for any scholarship you do not mark,
so please be complete. Submit the application electronically at
the web site by February 15, 2008. Late applications
will not be considered.
HOW ARE RECIPIENTS SELECTED?
Scholarship recipients are selected based on criteria established
by donors for each scholarship. Many are based on ACT scores (freshmen),
GPA, extracurricular activities and in some cases financial need.
Recipients of Agriculture Department scholarships are notified by
mail in March and recipients of university scholarships are notified
by mail in May. If a scholarship is declined, a new recipient is
chosen from a list of alternates. Students feeling that they meet
criteria for financial aid should complete the Free Application
for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as soon after January 1 as possible.
FAFSA packets are available from your high school counselor, current
college or university's financial aid office or from Fort Hays State
University, Financial Assistance Office, 300 Custer Hall, 600 Park
Street, Hays, KS 67601-4099, (785) 628-4408.
ARE OTHER SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE?
Students should also check the section in the FHSU Scholarship Application
titled General Scholarships, which are available to all students
attending FHSU regardless of major. Check with your current high
school, community college or university for information regarding
scholarships that may be available to you through foundations, professional
and/or civic organizations, corporations, or any locally-granted
scholarships.
