Tiger Extravaganza on the Plaza, Kansas
City, Mo. - Dec. 2
Tiger alumni gathered on the Plaza in Kansas City for an extravaganza

Annual Holiday Tree Lighting – Nov. 26, 2007
The holidays wouldn’t be the same without
the annual FHSU Holiday Tree Lighting ceremony as faculty, staff,
students, and community members gathered on campus on November 26 to
enjoy traditional holiday music, treats, and the lighting of the
official University tree. The Fort Hays State Singers welcomed
the crowd with carols and University President Edward Hammond extended holiday greetings. Special recognition of Student Alumni
Association members, an elite 30-member student group dedicated
to raising alumni and admission awareness, was provided prior
to announcing the annual coloring contest winners.
Headin' to California FHSU Style
- November 15-17, 2007
The Fort Hays State Tigers arrived in California
Nov 15-17 to host alumni events in San Diego, Greater Los Angeles/Garden
Grove, and Oakland for area alumni and friends. Leading the FHSU
lineup was special guests: President Dr. Edward Hammond and his
wife, Mary; Brad Botz, Foundation senior director of gift planning,
and Debra Prideaux ’86, ’92, executive director of
alumni and governmental relations, all of which brought comments
on the success FHSU is experiencing. With an enrollment that has
topped 9,588 students, increased international partnerships, renovation
of the Memorial Union, and the opening of the new Robbins Center
which houses both the Foundation and the Alumni Association, the
University has never been better. Area Tiger hosts included: Kelly ’81
and Mary Hamilton, San Diego; Carol (Lipp) Strauss ’65, Garden
Grove, and Kevin Faulkner ’83, '83, and LaNette (Schmeidler)

Central Kansas Tiger Gathering
-- Great Bend, KS -- November 10, 2007
The Best Western Angus Inn-Poolside Room provided the perfect setting for members of the Central Kansas Alumni Club to gather on Nov. 10 in Great Bend. Highlighting the event was the performance of the Fort Hays Singers. Under the direction of Terry Crull, FHSU music instructor, the Fort Hays Singers is the top choral ensemble on the FHSU campus. In May, the Singers traveled to Taiwan on a 10-day tour and will soon perform at the 2008 KMEA State Workshop. The oldest alum in attendance was Elizabeth Gunn who graduated with three FHSU English degrees - AB in 1935, BS in 1936 and MA in 1967. Debra Prideaux, ’86, ’92, executive director and Stacey Lang '95, assistant director, both of the Alumni Association, and Cathy Van Doren '70, Foundation development director joined the festivities. Dinner was catered by the Wheatlands Café, Hudson, which is owned by FHSU alumnus Darrell Bauer '83. Special thanks to alumni hosts: Roger '76 and Leesa Butler '76, who provided the leadership for this annual event.
Takin' the Jayhawks by Storm
Party - November 6, 2007 - Lawrence
The tables were set with a delightful Italian
buffet, the large TV screens were turned on, and fans cheered
as the Tigers took center court to challenge the University
of Kansas Jayhawks in Lawrence. Alumni and fans gathered at
the newly-opened Extended Eldridge Hotel in Lawrence on Nov
6. Even though the Tigers were less than victorious, 56-93,
the spirits were high as leading scorer Tyrone Evans, Aurora,
Illinois, accumulated 15 points. Joining the party was FHSU
special guest President Edward Hammond who presented the latest
and greatest in Tiger news. Hammond was joined by Tim Chapman,
president/CEO and Brad Botz, senior development director of
planned giving, both of the FHSU Foundation and Debra Prideaux ’86, ’92,
executive director of alumni and governmental relations. Special

Alumni and Friends Hospitality Tent
The 2007-08 Alumni Association calendar of events was highlighted by the first-time ever Alumni and Friends Hospitality Tent held in conjunction with the Fall Semester 2007 season. Tiger fans of all ages welcomed the 2007 football season by gathering outside of Lewis Field Stadium to enjoy picnic cuisine provided compliments of The Bakery Shop, Hays, and live music. Student Alumni Association members organized games for the kids, handed out balloons, and painted Tiger paws on faces. Stay tuned for next year’s season as this event expands with other organizations and events.

one-of-a-kind setting was the perfect venue to join your Tiger friends
for a social and dinner. Dr. Hammond presented a summary of his past

Tiger Hospitality Oktoberfest
Booth
– Oct. 5, 2007
They came early and stayed late to enjoy this
popular event that combined delicious German food, lively entertainment
and unique crafts and vender booths. This year, the ABODs, headed
by FHSU Association President Bonnie Lowe, and fellow board members,
hosted an official alumni and friends hospitality booth in Frontier
Park. Alumni and friends stopped by, registered for FREE Tiger
prizes, and found out the latest and greatest in Association news.
Geosciences Graduates
Reunion! – Oct. 5-6
This was an opportunity
to return to campus on Oct 5-6 for a special Geosciences Reunion!
Given the success of the one held on campus in 1999, they decided
to get together again to interact with other geosciences graduates
and faculty for two days filled with camaraderie and fun in an
informal setting. They enjoyed specially guided tours of the internationally
renowned Sternberg Museum of Natural History Paleontology collection
as well as the Department of Geosciences in Tomanek Hall. For

The Best Sigma Reunion Possible!
– Oct. 5-6
Under the roof of the Tri Sigma house lived
a group of women who have shaped the future of many. Whether mother,
lawyer, doctor, or teacher, the lives that molded so many were
transformed here at Fort Hays State University under the watch
of the Sigma sisterhood. So they celebrated the heritage of
the house and the history of the FHSU Tri Sigma sisterhood during

on Friday evening, rode in the Homecoming Parade on Saturday morning,

Don't get left behind - It's party time! - Sept. 15, 2007
FHSU alumnus, Rod '80, '91 and Nancy '80, '81 Moyer,
set the stage at the Seabrook Bar and Grill in Topeka for a Tiger gathering
designed to generate Tiger excitement prior to the FHSU vs Washburn University
football game. Known for its famous hamburgers, French fries, and gravy,
Seabrook is an all-time favorite hangout for locals and guests visiting
the Topeka area. The spirits were high as supporters headed to Yager Stadium
on the Washburn campus. Even though the Tigers lost, 28-10, everyone had
a GREAT time meeting fellow FHSU alumni and friends. Special thanks to the
Moyers for hosting the pre-game party.
FHSU Boothill and J&J Powerline
Contractors, Inc Golf Tournament – Sept. 8, 2007
A successful day on the links of the ever-popular Dodge
City Country Club was enjoyed by all as FHSU Tiger and J&J Powerline Contractors,
Inc enjoyed the camaraderie of golfers while competing in a four person
scramble format. The event tee-off at 8:30am, followed by lunch and program
to recognize the successful teams. Congratulations to alumni host, Terry
Rabe '78. In its 18th year in varying formats, this event has generated
in excess of $199,000 for southwest Kansas students seeking to advance their
educational dreams at Fort Hays.
Northwest Kansas Golf Challenge, Colby - Aug. 24, 2007
A full day of golf, camaraderie, and fun wasn't
meant to be at the 2nd annual NWest Kansas Golf Challenge as torrential
rains proved to be challenging for golfers. The golf tournament
was cancelled before it began. Plans are underway to reschedule
the event in 2008. Darvin Strutt '79 served as alumni host
for the tournament, leading the charge both before and after in
rallying golfers to take part in this event designed to raise scholarship
funds for students from northwest Kansas to attend FHSU. Hats off
to Mr. Strutt!
Harris Golf Tournament and BBQ, Liberal - Aug. 18, 2007
Another successful tournament, honoring Dr. Norvan
'42 and Mrs. Dorothy Harris, in now part of the FHSU archives. Golfers
from far and wide enjoyed a 4-person scramble on the beautiful Liberal
Country Club. Following the tournament, prizes were awarded to the winning
teams who promptly donated the funds to the Harris Scholarship Fund.
In its 6th year, this important tournament has generated in excess of
$13,500 for students to further their educational dreams at FHSU. Alumni
hosts S arah Miller '83 and Jerry Harding '78, both of Liberal, are
to be commended for the success of this event. Special thanks are extended
to the more than 20 Liberal area and community businesses who donated
to this event.

Southwest Kansas Tiger Party, Garden City - Aug. 17, 2007
Finney
County area Fort Hays State University alumni and friends met
this fall to enjoy a delicious barbeque dinner at one of Garden
City's most popular places...the Finnup Center located in the
Lee Richardson Zoo, home to over 100 different species of native
and exotic animals. Everyone enjoyed some good old-fashioned
Tiger fun with several guests taking home a special Fort Hays

Senior Send-Off - May 11, 2007
On Friday, May 11 after commencement practice,
the Student Alumni Association and Nelnet teamed to sponsor
the 2007 Senior Send-Off. The award-winning event was created
in 2006 to thank seniors for their hard work and welcome them
to alumni status. Seniors were greeted by the music of the
band "This Charming Man." The smell of grilling
hamburgers floated on the breeze making everyone hungry. The grilling
crew included Steve Woods and Ed Stehno, respectively the current
and the past president of Tiger Club, who had volunteered to
flip burgers. Games and chances to win a large variety of prizes
added to the afternoon. Over $2,500 worth of prizes were donated
by area business and organizations, with the grand prize being
a red electric motor scooter donated by Auto World of Hays.
All graduating seniors were admitted FREE, and family members
were encouraged to join for a nominal fee to cover food costs.
Graduate Faculty Brunch - May 11, 2007
Held
in the Fort Hays Ballroom in the Memorial Union on Friday, May 11,
the brunch allows classmates, professors, families and friends to
join one another to recognize and honor all graduates and nominees.
The 2007 Torch, Pilot and Navigator awards were awarded during the
event. Diane Becker, Lenora, was named the Torch Award recipient
as the outstanding 2007 graduating senior at Fort Hays State University.
Becker, the daughter of Paul and Linda Becker, Lenora, received
a bachelor's degree in political science from FHSU. Dr. Greg Farley,
associate professor of biological sciences, accepted the Pilot Award
and Dr. Mark Stutz, assistant professor and director of athletic
training education, received the Navigator Award as outstanding
advisor.
Half-Century Club Brunch – May
4, 2007
Members of the FHSU Half-Century
Club gathered for the annual Spring Reception on Friday, April 27,
2007, at President and Mrs. Edward Hammond's home on the FHSU campus.
Members of the Class of 1956 were welcomed for the first time since
their induction during Homecoming festivities.
The club members were interested in the changes to the university
residence. The president's home has recently received design improvements
and remodeling. Featured art work from FHSU instructors, alumni
and current students is displayed throughout the home, and is a
wonderful way to feature the talent of our Tiger community. President
Bob Schmidt welcomed those attending and reminded everyone that
homecoming was around the corner and the class of 1957 was to join
the club. Dr. Hammond spoke on the growth of the university and
then gave an interesting explanation of how the residence came to
be remodeled, including the design of the beautiful woodwork, which
was donated by his own brother.

"ALMOST" APRIL FOOL'S DAY PARTY –
March 30, 2007
FHSU alumni and friends gathered at Rusty's
Last Chance Saloon in Manhattan on Friday, March 30, to celebrate
the Flint Hills Alumni Club 3rd annual April Fool's Day Party.
Rusty's proved to be the perfect venue inside as spirits were not
dampened by the torrential rain that fell outside for this annual
event. Tim Chapman, President and CEO of the FHSU Endowment Association,
and Debra Prideaux, Executive Director of Alumni and Governmental
Relations, showcased the latest happenings on the FHSU campus,
as munchies and beverages were enjoyed by all in attendance. Special
thanks to Ron ’81 and Betty Johnson ’80, Lowell &
Stacy ’84 Kohlmeier, Steve and Sally Shields, and Harry ’76

2007
The numbers are tallied – the votes
are in – and this year, the 2007 Student Recognition Program,
has been ranked the best ever. A total of 643 students attended
11 programs throughout Kansas, and one in Denver, Colo. and also
Holdrege, Nebr., which is a 23% increase over last year when 521
students attended. Special thanks are extended to the many Tiger
alumni and friends who contributed to the success of the program.

FHSU TIGER EXTRAVAGANZA PARTY – January
10, 2007
The sky was clear, the mood was right as
Shawnee and area county FHSU Tigers gathered on Wednesday, Jan.
10, at Varsity Blues in Topeka for fellowship and fun prior to
the FHSU @ Washburn University men’s and women’s basketball
games. The party was festive and helped bolster Tiger fans spirits
as the women lost 34-78 in the opening game followed by a 57-69
loss later by the men’s team. Hats off to the alumni hosts,
Michael ’01 and Tenille Kimberlin ‘00, who gave of
their time and talent to make the pre-game Tiger party a success.
FHSU Tiger Party - Takin' the Jayhawks by Storm - a Hit!!! - Nov.
1, 2006
Johnny's Tavern provided the perfect setting
for a Tiger pre-game party in Lawrence on Saturday, Nov. 1 as more
than 75 Tiger supporters gathered to enjoy camaraderie, good food,
and a University update provided by Dr, Edward Hammond, president
of FHSU, before heading to the FHSU vs. KU women's basketball game.
After a challenging match, the Tigers succumbed to the effort of
the Lady Jayhawks with a score of 55-80. Specials thanks to hosts:

FHSU Tree Lighting Ceremony - November 27, 2006
Hot chocolate and cookies greeted the holiday
revelers at the FHSU Holiday tree lighting ceremony, while carolers
from the music department sent the seasonal atmosphere out on the
cool night air. The lighting ceremony was completed as faculty,
staff, students, and guests counted down for FHSU President Dr.
Edward Hammond to flip the switch and light the trees. After the
ceremony, Santa Claus came to visit with the children and the results
of the coloring contest were announced. The lighting event is sponsored
annually by the FHSU Student Alumni Association and corporate sponsor
Wendy’s of Hays.

Homecoming 2006
Tiger supporters of all ages were
treated to a weekend of beautiful weather during the 2006 FHSU
Homecoming activities. Special guests of honor included the seven
FHSU alumni who received Alumni Awards at a banquet on Friday evening,
the traditional reunion classes of 1946, 1956 and 1966, and former
football team members/coaches. Warm temperatures and no wind produced
large crowds at the Tiger Golf Tournament and the 5K Tiger Run/Walk,
and alumni and friends spanning many generations enjoy cake and
punch during the Alumni Association's 90th Birthday Celebration.
On Saturday, no one wanted to miss the Homecoming Parade and Tiger
Friends &
Family Picnic before cheering on the football team during the game.
The weekend wrapped up in style with a social, dinner, and dance
at the Smoky Hill Country Club where the Tigers danced the night
away. Yes, Homecoming 2006 was surely one to remember! Slide Show

Ellis County Chapter Event, Hays - October 19, 2006
Gella’s Diner & the LB Brewery, Hays, provided the perfect
setting on Thurs., Oct. 19, for area Tiger supporters to gather
and show their Tiger spirit while socializing and enjoying live
entertainment provided by FHSU music instructor and highly-sought
chamber musician, Benjamin Morris-Cline. Special guest Dr. Edward
Hammond provided an update on the newest happenings in higher education.
Special thanks to Gella’s Diner & the LB Brewery and
its staff for providing a delicious array of appetizers and outstanding
service that was enjoyed by all in attendance. Slideshow!

Harris Alumni
& Friends Golf Tournament/Dinner, Liberal - September 16, 2006
Strong winds in Seward County on Saturday, Sept.
16, didn’t deter the FHSU golfers who took part in the annual
Harris Golf Tournament at the Liberal Country Club. Thanks to the
efforts of alumni hosts Sarah Miller ’83 and Jerry Harding
’78, a total of 48 golfers, or 12 foursomes, participated
in this noteworthy event dedicated in honor of Dr. and Mrs. Norvan
Harris, Liberal. Dr. Harris is a 1942 FHSU graduate whose belief
in the importance of education is surpassed only by his love for
the citizens of southwest Kansas. Since its inception in 2001,
this annual tournament has generated in excess of $12,000 for students
from southwest Kansas to further their educational dreams at Fort
Hays State University. Hats off to the winners of the Championship
flight: Marvin Chance, Kelly Cook '94, '96, Tim Long, and Scott

Front Range Tigers: Head to the
Mines – It's Party Time! Golden,
Colo. – September 9, 2006
The Fall River Room of the beautiful Golden
Hotel was the site of a Tiger Party before the FHSU football team
took on the Colorado School of Mines. Attendees got revved up for
the game with a delicious buffet and updates on FHSU from President
Edward Hammond, Alumni Director Debra Prideaux ’86, ’92,
and Athletic Director Curtis Hammeke ’85, ’93. Special

Boothill Alumni & Friends Golf Tournament,
Dodge City – September 9, 2006
A little rain can’t chase away FHSU alumni and friends
when they gather to raise scholarship support at the Boothill Golf
Tournament! Despite a lightening delay and an intermittent rain
for most of the day, over 140 golfers enjoyed this four-man scramble
at the Dodge City Country Club. Thanks to alumni host Terry Rabe
’78, low scores and good times were had by all.
Northwest Kansas Tiger Golf Tournament,
Goodland
– September 8, 2006
Nestled in the trees, Tiger faithful were treated to a
beautful day at Sugar Hills Golf Club for the Northwest Kansas Golf
Tournament. Attendees enjoyed a great round of golf on the lush,
green links of Sugar Hills, and then were treated to a delicious
lunch and were updated on current happenings at FHSU from President
Hammond. Eight foursomes, or 32 golfers, participated in this important
event to raise scholarship money for students from northwest Kansas
to attend Fort Hays State University. The winners of the Championship
Flight were Mike Elliott, Jerry Fairbanks, JD Hooper, all of Goodland,
and Shane Larson '02, Hays. Hats off to alumni host Larry McCants
'71, Goodland, for his efforts in making the event a tremendous

Finney County Alumni & Friends Tiger Party - Garden City -
Aug. 18, 2006 Nestled in the trees of the Reeves
family backyard, FHSU alumni and friends gathered in Garden City
on Friday, Aug. 18, to enjoy Tiger fellowship and a delicious barbecue
prepared by a local chef team that received the "best lunch" vote
by competitors of the Great American Amazing Race held throughout
the United States in 2005. Guests enjoyed watching the chefs prepare
tender steaks, beer bread, BBQ beans, and homemade peach cobbler
on their grills in cast iron pots. Hats off to Brenda Reeves '79
who hosted the event.
Central Kansas Tiger Gathering–
Ellinwood - Aug. 12, 2006
The American Legion in Ellinwood provided the perfect
setting for FHSU supporters from all across Barton and surrounding
counties to gather and share in good old-fashioned Tiger fun. This
popular Central Kansas Alumni Chapter annual event was hosted by
Roger '76 and Leeza '76 Butler, Great Bend. Special guest, Dr. John
Heinrichs, associate professor and chair of FHSU Geosciences, shared
the latest in satellite imagery, computer mapping (GSP), and global
positioning system (GPS) technology as it relates to today's world.

Reno County FHSU Party – Hutchinson - July 15, 2006
More than 50 Tiger faithful made their way to the
beautiful Dillon Nature Center for this exciting event. Attendees
were treated to fun, fellowship, and a delicious Hog Wild barbecue
with all the trimmings. FHSU President Dr. Edward Hammond updated
the crowd on current and future activities on campus and abroad,
including the implementation of new wireless technology that will
allow FHSU faculty to gain real-time knowledge of student learning

Biology Masters Reunion, Campus – May 19-20, 2006
It was all smiles and laughs for FHSU biology master’s
graduates during their reunion on May 19-20. Traveling from the
far reaches of the country, attendees were treated to a reception
and behind the scenes tours of the Sternberg Museum of Natural
History on Friday night. Saturday brought a delicious brunch and
tours of campus and Albertson Hall, home of the Biology Department.
Then the good times really got going with a social and banquet
that included a look at the past, present and future of the Biology
Department, as well as a special auction and prize drawings benefiting

Half-Century Club Spring Reception, Hays
– May 4, 2006
The FHSU Half Century Club gathered on a beautiful May morning at
the Sternberg Museum of Natural History for their annual Spring
Reception. Attendees were treated to a delicious brunch before getting
an update by Dr. Edward Hammond on the latest and greatest happenings
on the FHSU campus. Many Half-Century Club members and guests then
took a guided tour of the Sternberg Museum of Natural History, compliments
of the FHSU Alumni Association.

April Fool's Day Party, Manhattan – March 31, 2006
Rusty’s Last Chance Saloon was the site of a rousing get-together
of Fort Hays State alumni and friends at the “Almost”
April Fool’s Day Party in Manhattan. Attendees proudly displayed
their Tiger gear in Wildcat country and enjoyed delicious food and
drinks, in addition to the chance to win special FHSU prizes. A

The first of three Ellis County alumni
and friends events provided local graduates with a time to reunite
and catch up! The event took place at Gutch's Bar and Grill in Hays.
A good time was had by everyone at this gathering that included
prizes and appetizers, including Gutch's famous wood-fired pizzas.
RMAC Tournament Pre-Game Party, Pueblo, CO - March 4, 2006
Over 100 Tiger faithful - including
alumni, friends, family and students - invaded the Colorado State
Fairgrounds in Pueblo for a pep-rally before the men's basketball
team took the floor for the 2006 RMAC Shootout. Sporting their Tiger
gear and filled with excitement, guests were treated to a wonderful
buffet and prizes galore. With the Tiger Pep Band, Cheerleaders,
and Tiger Debs all in attendance, the FHSU faithful were roaring

St. Louis Alumni Gathering - Jan. 22, 2006
Tiger alumni and friends in
the greater St. Louis area were treated to a delicious pizza and
salad buffet at the historic Morgan Street Brewery on Laclede's
Landing. Attendees showed off their Tiger gear and heard updates
on current happenings at FHSU, including a special presentation
on the Robbins Alumni & Endowment Center. Special thanks to alumni hosts Jim

Phoenix Alumni Gathering - Jan. 21, 2006
Friday’s Front Row Sports Grill, located
in the home of the Arizona Diamondbacks, Bank One Ballpark, was
the site of a terrific gathering of over 30 FHSU alumni and friends
in downtown Phoenix. Attendees took the opportunity to socialize
with other Tiger alumni and friends during this unique experience
featuring a presentation by FHSU President Dr. Edward Hammond. A
delicious meal complete with all the trimmings and special prizes
were enjoyed by all. Thanks to everyone who helped organize this
event, especially Bob ’68 and Carolyn ’66 Rosebaugh,
Phoenix.
“Tiger Coming Out Party – MIAA Style,” Wichita
- Dec. 2, 2005
The Newman University hospitality suite was
the perfect setting for FHSU alumni and friends to gather for a
pre-game party before the Tiger men's basketball team took the
court in a battle of the unbeatens against Southwest Baptist. This
game was a sneak preview of future contests as FHSU joins the MIAA
conference starting in fall 2006. Attendees were treated to a variety
of delicious appetizers and desserts while getting revved up for
the game. Special thanks to alumni hosts Stephanie Knebel ’86 and Twila Flowers
’55.
Holiday Tree Lighting --- November
28, 2005
Cold and snowy weather could not keep a large
crowd from attending the annual FHSU Holiday Tree Lighting ceremony.
With festivities moved into the lobby of Sheridan Hall, faculty,
staff, students and community members were treated to a chorus of
traditional holiday music from the Fort Hays Singers. Recognition
of Student Alumni Association members and the annual coloring contest
winners preceded a holiday greeting from FHSU President Dr. Ed Hammond.
Following a short countdown, three spectacular trees were bathed
in holiday lights outside Sheridan as special guest Santa Claus
made his annual visit to the ceremony to here gift wishes. Everyone
was then treated to hot chocolate, cider and cookies, compliments
of corporate sponsor Wendy's.

Nov. 9, 2005
Nearly 100 Tiger supporters invaded the 75th
Street Brewery to watch the FHSU's men's basketball team take on
Kansas University on Jayhawk TV. Alumni and friends were treated
to a delicious hor d'oeuvres bar while showing their Tiger pride
with friends both new and old. Special thanks to alumni hosts Bonnie

during the annual Central Kansas FHSU Alumni Gathering. Special

Homecoming – There’s
No Place Like Homecoming! – Sept. 29 – Oct. 2, 2005
A picture perfect weekend set the stage as hundreds
of alumni converged on Hays for the 2005 FHSU Homecoming activities.
The weekend was highlighted by the honoring of seven FHSU alumni
at the Alumni and Endowment Awards Banquet on Friday evening. Traditional
reunion classes of 1945, 1955 and 1965 were honored, as well as
former gymnastics team members/coaches. Large fields filled the
Tiger Golf Tournament and the 5K Tiger Run/Walk, and members of
the Lewis Field Club gathered for their traditional breakfast. On
Saturday, Tiger supports flocked to the Homecoming Parade and Tiger
Friends & Family Picnic, before cheering on the football team
during the game. These events, combined with the nursing alumni/friends
breakfast, a Delta Sigma Phi reunion, special press conferences,
and campus tours, helped to make Homecoming 2005 one for the record

Boothill Alumni & Friends Golf
Challenge, Banquet & Auction - Sept. 16-17, 2005
The annual Boothill Golf Tournament, held on
Friday, September 16, was enjoyed by a full field of golfers on
a beautiful day at the Dodge City Country Club. FHSU supporters
then reconvened on Saturday evening at the Dodge City Civic Center
for the 17th annual Boothill Banquet and Auction. As in years past,
the events were dedicated exclusively to raising scholarship funding
for students in Ford and surrounding counties to attend FHSU. Since
its inception, the Boothill Alumni Club has generated more than
$172,000 for southwest Kansas students to pursue their educational
dreams at Fort Hays State University and this year's event was without
exception as $12,000 was raised bringing the grand scholarship total
to $184,000. The alumni event coordinators were Jim Groth ’86,

Harris Golf Tournament & Barbeque,
Liberal - Sept. 10, 2005
A sunny, wind-filled day greeted a the large
crowd that turned out for the 5th annual Harris Golf Tournament
and Banquet in Liberal on Sept. 10 at the Liberal Country Club.
This year, through the generous support of friends and alumni of
southwest Kansas, $3,000 was generated for the Harris Scholarship
Fund. Since its inception in 2001, the fund has accumulated more
than $15,000 for students from Seward and surrounding counties to
pursue their educational dreams at Fort Hays State University. Special
thanks to Jerry Harding ’78 who organized the event and the

Tail Great Raffle – August
27, 2005
Members of the FHSU Student Alumni Association
greeted friends and alumni present at Tail Great 2005, prior to
the season-opening Tiger football game. Many students, alumni and
friends participaped in a raffle for alumni prizes. Geralyn Graver
’89, Victoria, KS, won an alumni t-shirt,
Don E. Redding, Bushton, KS, grandfather of football player Jordon
Hickel, took home a Tiger blanket, and Amy Stecklein, Hays, won

May 13, 2005
The FHSU Alumni Association hosted the 2005 Graduate
and Faculty Brunch in honor of the Fall 2004, Spring 2005, and Summer
2005 graduates. Annual Awards were presented to the outstanding
graduate, teacher, and academic advisor. The Torch Award, which
recognizes the outstanding graduating senior, was presented to Mitchell
Hall, Anthony, KS. Dr. Carol Patrick Land, professor of Psychology,
received the Pilot Award, for outstanding teaching, and Jill Stafford,
instructor of Leadership Studies, won the Navigator award for exceptional
academic advising.
Half-Century Club Spring Reception
- April 29, 2005
Cold blustery winds and snow in some parts of
western and northern Kansas could not deter guests who attended
the 2005 Half-Century Club Spring Reception in Hays. Hosted by FHSU
President Ed Hammond and the Alumni Association, members enjoyed
a delightful brunch as the Fort Hays Singers provided entertainment.
Special thanks to Half-Century Club President Bob McClellan ’51,
who emceed the event. Plans are underway for a one day (bus) extravaganza
to the Rolling Hills Zoo, just west of Salina. If you are interested

SAA Annual Banquet - April 29, 2005
The Student Alumni Association Annual Banquet
was held Friday, April 29 in the Memorial Union. Brenda Craven '03,
spoke to the group about people who make lasting impressions on
others' lives. President Kelli Ubelaker provided and overview of
the organization and its accomplishments. Tricia Kline and Conni
Dreher were recognized as the group sponsors, awards were presented
to outstanding members, and 2005-2006 SAA officers were introduced.

April 1, 2005
The first annual Flint Hills chapter event was held at one of Manhattan's
most popular
places - Rusty's Last Chance Saloon. A good time was had by all

Holiday Tree Lighting --- November 29, 2004
Fort Hays State University ushered
in the holiday season at the annual Tree Lighting ceremony in front
of Sheridan Hall on Monday, November 29th at 6 PM. The Fort Hays
State Singers welcomed the crowd with carols and University President
Edward H. Hammond extended holiday greetings before lighting the
first Christmas tree on campus. Winners of the coloring contest
held in conjunction with the event were announced and Santa was
on hand to present toys to the children. Hot chocolate and cookies
were served in the Dreiling Lobby of Sheridan Hall. This event is
sponsored by the Student Alumni Association and Wendy’s Restaurant
of Hays.
Kansas City Pub Crawl - A Hit!!! - Nov. 6, 2004
Johnny’s Pub and Grill provided the
perfect starting point for the 2nd annual Kansas City Pub Crawl
in Shawnee Mission on Saturday, Nov. 6 as more than 50 Tigers settled
in for a fun-filled night of food, fun and excitement. Everyone
loaded on a bus complete with music and psychedelic lights, and
headed to the Schoolhouse Bar and Grille. The bus then stopped at
Lucky Brewgrille before returning to Johnny’s as participants
could be heard singing In Heaven There’s no Beer. Special

2004 Homecoming – Let the
Good Times Roll! – Oct. 7-10
Another beautiful weekend set
the stage for the 2004 FHSU Homecoming activities. The classes of
1954, 1964, and 1979 were honored, as well as Greeks and former
volleyball players/coaches. Lewis Field Club members gathered for
their traditional breakfast. With a large crowd in attendance, seven
FHSU alumni were honored at the Alumni and Endowment Awards Banquet
on Friday evening. On Saturday evening, Tigers "let the good
times roll" with the Jimmy Dee and the Fabulous Destinations
band at the Tiger Rock 'n Roll Party. These events, combined with
the nursing alumni/friends breakfast, special groundbreaking of
new campus apartments, the opening of the Postcard Series, and campus
tours, combined to make Homecoming 2004 fabulous a memory for all.

FHSU Boothill Golf for Scholarships
and Banquet, Dodge City – September 25, 2004
New to the Boothill Alumni
Club lineup was the first ever Boothill Golf Tournament. A full
day of
activities at the Dodge City Country Club began with golf registration
at 7:30am, followed by tee-off at 8am. Similar to the Boothill
Pheasant
Safari that has been held in Dodge City for 15 years, this weekend
event’s were dedicated exclusively to raising scholarship
funding for students in Ford and surrounding counties to attend
FHSU. Later in the day a banquet, complete with a delicious steak
dinner, was held at the Dodge City Civic Center, followed by
a silent
and live auction. Since its inception 16 years ago, the Boothill
Alumni Club has generated more than $154,000 for southwest Kansas
students to pursue their educational dreams at Fort Hays State
University and this year's event was without exception as $18,000
was raised
bringing the grand scholarship total to $172,000. The alumni event

The Grove Park Golf Club was the site of the
annual fall gathering of the Central Kansas Alumni Club. FHSU alumni

the Torch Award, and Dr. Germaine Taggart, associate professor of

Half Century Club Spring Reception – May 7, 2004
The annual Half Century Club Spring Reception was held at 10:30
a.m., Fri., May 7, at the home of President Edward Hammond. Dr.
Hammond provided guests an update on campus happenings, and Half
Century Club President Elinor Haneke ’46, ’47 provided
information on upcoming club activities including the induction
of the Class of 1954 on Fri., Oct. 8.

The annual Student Alumni Association Spring Banquet was held Friday
evening, April 30, in Stouffer Lounge, Memorial Union. Alan Deines
’73, president of the Alumni Association Board of Directors,
was featured speaker. The program also included presentation of
awards to outstanding members and induction of incoming SAA officers
for the 2004-05 academic year. Tiger keepsakes were presented to
each graduating senior.

Hunting Anyone? Dodge City —
Nov. 14-16, 2003
The Boothill Pheasant Safari and Banquet celebrated
its 15th anniversary as FHSU alumni and friends from across the
state and region gathered to enjoy a full weekend of hunting and
camaraderie on Nov. 14-16. Since its inception, this annual event
has raised more than $154,000 in scholarship funds for students
attending FHSU. This year, $14,000 was netted, the second highest
amount raised in the history of this event. Enjoy the slide

Excitement filled the air as returning students
joined Tiger fans for a fun-filled afternoon of TailGreat 2003 activities
Saturday, Sept. 6, in the Lewis Field area. Pre-game activities
included flag football, sand volleyball and pedal tractor pull contests
between Tiger and Emporia State Hornet fans as well as an Eagle
Radio-sponsored barbecue. Winners of the Hays Chamber of Commerce
and FHSU Athletic Department-sponsored community and student spirit
awards were Lon Pishny ’71, ’78, and family, Garden
Ciity, and FHSU's student spirit group Tiger Wild.
Tiger and Ichabod Match-up, Topeka
– Sept. 13, 2003
Despite drizzling rain and cool temperatures,
spirits soared as more than 100 Tiger alumni and friends from across
Kansas and beyond, traveled to Topeka for a pre-game party at Washburn
University Saturday, Sept. 3. Protected by a large tent and warmed
with delicious barbecue catered by Boss Hawg’s of Topeka,
those in attendance enjoyed visiting with fellow Tigers and hearing
a campus update by President Edward Hammond. Following a drawing
for a variety of Tiger prizes, guests moved to the stadium for the

FHSU alumni and friends in the Wichita area met
at 7 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 27, in the home of Kay Ann ’61
and Jack ’59 Feiden for a relaxing evening of conversation
and hors d’oeuvres. Bringing words on behalf of FHSU were
Debra Prideaux, executive alumni director; Dr. Diane Scott ’88,
’90, associate vice president of student affairs; and Virgil
Scott ’81, president and CEO of the FHSU Endowment Association.

Up! – Oct. 2-5, 2003
Perfect weather for a perfect weekend describes
FHSU’s Homecoming 2003! From golf and football to theatre
and art, there was something for everyone to enjoy. Members of the
Class of 1953 were inducted into the Half Century Club and also
enjoyed, as did the Classes of 1963 and 1973, reunion breakfasts.
Lewis Field Club members also gathered for their traditional breakfast.
With a large crowd in attendance, seven FHSU alumni were honored
at the Alumni and Endowment Awards Banquet on Friday evening. On
Saturday evening, Tigers rejuvenated to live jazz at the post-game
social before joining fellow Tigers at the Alumni & Friends
Banquet and Dance where they again “Jazzed It Up” to
live music. These events, combined with the nursing alumni/friends
breakfast, Class of 1963 social and reception, special presentation
in Forsyth Library by Jim Reamer of the Kansas Cosmosphere Space
Program, a showcasing of vintage ’60s cars, and campus tours,
assured that Homecoming 2003 was a “memory-making” weekend.

Oktoberfest Booth – Oct. 3, 2003
Always a popular event, Oktoberfest 2003 was
no exception. Amid delicious German food and lively music, members
of the FHSU Alumni Association Board of Directors manned a booth
in order to welcome returning alumni and friends. Tigers were invited
to sign the guestbook and register for free FHSU prizes. The lucky
winners included Jennifer Axman ’02, Topeka, FHSU long sleeve
T-shirt; Carole Converse ’70, ’71, ’72, Larned,
Tiger rug; Jan Cutright ’93, Hays, set of Tiger glasses; Tiffany

Kansas City Alumni Club –
Pub Crawl, Kansas City – June 13, 2003
Fort Hays State alumni and friends met for an
evening of fun and food! A bus transported participants from pub
to pub, and drawings for prizes were held on-board. The group gathered
at 5:30 p.m. at Tanner’s Bar & Grill, Lenexa. Chris Meiers
’97, ’99 at (913) 631-1347, and Mark McGavran ’98,
at (913) 780-2475, hosted the event.
The Perfect Match, Liberal —
June 28, 2003
The third annual Harris Golf Tournament, sponsored
by the FHSU Alumni Association, was the place to be on Saturday,
June 28, in Liberal. Tee time for this four-person scramble was
11 a.m. at the Willow Tree Golf Course. Immediately following the
tournament, Tigers enjoyed for a delicious barbecue complete with
all the trimmings. Proceeds from the event fund FHSU scholarships
for deserving southwest Kansas students. Jerry Harding ’78

Spring is in the Air — Half
Century Club Reception, Hays — May 9, 2003
All members of the Half Century Club, including
its newest members – the Class of 1952, were invited to join
President Edward Hammond May 9, at his home, for the annual Half
Century Club Spring Reception. The reception featured a buffet and
art exhibit followed by special remarks from Dr. Hammond and Elinor
Haneke ’46, '47, president of the Half Century Club. The Half-Century
Club consists of FHSU alumni who graduated 50 or more years ago
as well as former faculty members.

Hays – May 16, 2003
The FHSU Alumni Association is pleased to extend
a special note of congratulations to members of the graduating class
of 2003 upon completing their degree requirements and becoming the
newest members of the Tiger alumni family. Special recognition was
extended to all members of the class along with their families and
friends. The 2003 outstanding student, faculty member and advisor
were announced at the event.

2003 Student Recognition Programs
(SRP) – January - March 2003
Another successful year of SRPs
was conducted in 2003 as prospective students and their families
joined Dr. Edward Hammond, fellow FHSU faculty, students and alumni,
at 12 different sites throughout Kansas and into Nebraska. A total
of 510 individuals, 468 of whom were seniors and transfer students,
as well as 220 faculty and 75 alumni, attended the programs. FHSU
scholarships were awarded to 388 individuals. For further information,

South Central Tiger Event, Wichita
– March 15, 2003
The Kansas Coliseum was the perfect site for
the first event of the newly rejuvenated South Central Tiger Club
as FHSU alumni and friends enjoyed a rambunctious game of hockey
between the Wichita Thunder and Odessa Jackalopes. Everyone met
in the VIP Coors Lounge prior to the game for a fun-filled evening.

Front Range Tiger Club
Some of the more than 1,400 FHSU alumni who live
in the Front Range area of Colorado joined other Tigers at the World
Arena to watch the men's basketball team defeat University of Nebraska-Kearney
on Saturday, March 9. Following the Tiger's exciting victory over
the Lopers, FHSU alumni and friends celebrated with coaches and
players in Rickenbacker's Lounge, Colorado Springs Sheraton, the
official RMAC host hotel.
Fall, 2002
Boothill Pheasant Safari and Banquet
Nov. 15-17, 2002 - Dodge City. Forty-seven hunters
from across the country enjoyed beautiful weather as they converged
on Dodge City for the 14th annual Boothill Pheasant Safari. Weekend
events ranged from the controlled hunting and sporting clay shoot
to raffles, auctions and banquets. More than 300 hunters and supporters
attended Saturday evening's banquet where $14,000 was generated
through a silent and live auction bringing the total to $144,000.
These funds are used for Fort Hays State University scholarships
for students living in Ford and surrounding counties. Special thanks
to Terry Rabe '78, Bud Estes '68, Jim Groth '86, Bob Groth '85,
Mike Miller '89, Janet Brack '90, Greg Kessen '88, Jeremy Rabe '99,
Alex Chavez and the many others responsible for the success of the
weekend event.
Through the efforts of the Dodge City Alumni Association which sponsored
the "Safari" weekend, $14,000 for Fort Hays State University
scholarships was generated for students living in Ford and surrounding

Homecoming Weekend 2002 - Rock Around
the Clock - Cheers to 100 Years
Oct. 10-13, 2002 -- FHSU/Hays. Homecoming Weekend
2002 was a success beyond all measures as literally thousands
of FHSU alumni and friends returned to Fort Hays State University
and the Hays community to celebrating the Centennial Homecoming.
There was something for everyone with reunions, athletics, special
performances, Tiger golf tournament, Oktoberfest, banquets, sports,
exhibits and class reunions including the Class of 1952 whose
members were inducted in the prestigious Half Century Club, and
the classes of 1962 and 1977. To make the festivities even better,
two specialty reunions, honoring men and women’s basketball
and the Nursing 50-year anniversary were included. View

Alumni Board of Directors Oktoberfest
Booth
Oct. 11, 2002 -- Frontier Park/Hays. A friendly
Oktoberfest setting, complete with German music and food, set
the tone as Alan Deines ’73, president of the FHSU Alumni
Board of Directors, and fellow board members hosted the first-ever
alumni booth in Frontier Park. Thousands of FHSU alumni and friends
enjoyed the camaraderie and many registered for free FHSU prizes.

Front Range Tiger Club
Oct. 5, 2002 -- Golden, Colorado. The home of
Terry ’70 and Phyllis Nuss’ home in Golden Golden set
the perfect stage as Tiger alumni and friends gathered together
following the FHSU vs Colorado School of Mines football game. Even
though the Tigers lost 27-42 to the OreDiggers, everyone enjoyed
the camaraderie provided by the Nuss’ following the game.
Special guests included Tom Spicer, FHSU athletic director, and
Debra Prideaux ’86, ’92, FHSU executive director of
alumni and governmental relations. Former FHSU wrestling coach,

Central Kansas Alumni Event
September 21, 2002 -- Another successful Central
Kansas Alumni event is now part of the FHSU archives with more
than 60 FHSU alumni supporters enjoying a full evening of entertainment
Sept. 21 at the Stone Ridge Country Club in Great Bend. Guests
included Dr. Hammond, president of FHSU, who updated the club
on the university progress along with a special presentation by
FHSU students, Daron Jamison, Quinter, SGA president; Rigo Ramirez
and Fernando Ramirez, Great Bend. Other FHSU representatives included
Debra Prideaux ’86, ’92, executive alumni director,
Annette Wiles ’91, ’93, coach, FHSU women’s
basketball and Eddie Trenkle, assistant coach, FHSU men’s
basketball. Congratulations are extended to Jean Cavanaugh ’70,
’71, ’75, president, Central Kansas Alumni Club, and

Kansas City Alumni Club
September 5, 2002 -- Kansas City. “The
Other Place” was the sight of the first gathering of the
newly rejuvenated Kansas City Alumni Club where more than 65 Tiger
supporters gathered to watch the FHSU vs ESU football game in
Emporia. The game was televised via Metro Sports and although
the Tigers lost to the Hornets 7-38, everyone had a good time.
Plans are underway by the Kansas City Alumni Club for monthly

Harris Golf Tournament
August 10, 2002 -- Liberal. The second annual
Harris Golf Tournament was even more successful than the first
with 15 teams taking to the links at Willowtree in Liberal to
compete for Tiger prizes while raising scholarship funds for students
from southwest Kansas to attend Fort Hays State University. Special
guests included Norvan ’42 and Dorothy Harris who joined
in the festivities with other Tiger alumni and friends to enjoy
an evening barbecue. Special thanks are extended to alumni host
Jerry Harding ’78, Liberal, and his planning committee.

Boothill Pheasant Safari
Nov. 16-18, 2001-- The Boothill Pheasant Safari
and Banquet planning committee provided another exciting weekend
for Tiger alumni and friends. Whether you like shooting skeet,
hunting pheasants, auctions, prizes, raffles, dinners - there
was something for everyone including a special appearance by the
Boot Hill Repertory Company at the Nov. 17 banquet. In its 13th
season, the safari and banquet has generated in excess of $115,000
in scholarships for students living in southwest Kansas to attend

Central Kansas Alumni Event
On Oct. 27, Central Kansas Alumni Club members
conducted their annual alumni event in Great Bend at the Golden
Belt Country Club. Special guests included FHSU President Edward
Hammond, Dr. Chris Crawford '89, '90, and several other FHSU university

Norvan and Dorothy Harris Golf Tournament
A large crowd of Tiger supporters gathered
at the first-ever Norvan '42 and Dorothy Harris Golf Tournament
on Sept. 8 in Liberal. The tournament was designed to establish
a "Norvan and Dorothy Harris Scholarship" at FHSU. Whether
you were a golfer or not, there was something for everyone as
a larger than anticipated number of guests also attended the evening
meal at the Salty Dog. Special kudos are extended to event coordinator
Jerry Harding '78 for everything he did to make the event a true

Tigers Attack at the State Fair
Another successful alumni event unfolded on
the opening day of the Kansas State Fair on Sept. 7 as Tiger alumni
and friends gathered in Hutchinson for the second annual "Alumni
Day at the State Fair." President Edward Hammond greeted
everyone in attendance along with other FHSU representatives before
handing out Tiger memorabilia. Special thanks are extended to
alumni host Carlos Murphy '59, '60, and other members of the planning
committee, Whitey '57, '63 and Shirley Alpers, Rita Birzer '58,

Biology Master's Reunion
Drs. Jerry Choate, Eugene Fleharty, Gary
Hulett '58, '59 and G.W "Jerry" Tomanek '42, '47 caused
quite the excitement in Hays on April 21 by conducting a book
signing reception as part of the first-ever Biology Master's Reunion
held at the Sternberg Museum of Natural History. Following the
book signing, the 145 FHSU alumni and friends in attendance toured
the campus before heading to the Union for a social and banquet
designed for reminiscing and fun. FHSU President Edward Hammond
brought greetings at the banquet and unexpectedly announced all
proceeds obtained from Dr. Tomanek's newly released book Beyond
the Classroom - a Survey of Fort Hays State University Biology
Graduates 1947-1972 would be directed into a newly established
" G.W. and R. Ardis Tomanek Graduate Assistantship in Biology."

Winter, 2001
100-Year State Legislation Signing
The threat of impending wintry weather could
not deter the overwhelming response of FHSU alumni and friends
who joined in celebrating the 100-year anniversary of the signing
of the state legislation that made FHSU an educational institution
in Topeka on Feb. 26, 2001. Those in attendance enjoyed touring
the newly renovated Governor's residence and the Capitol before
heading to the Kansas Museum of History for a banquet and reenactment
of the actual bill signing.
Special guests included Lt. Gov. Gary Sherrer who welcomed the
group on behalf of the state, Reps. Eber Phelps and Dan Johnson,
Senator Larry Salmans, Kansas Board of Regent Jack Wempe, Dr.
Ramon Powers, executive director of the Kansas Historical Society
in addition to Dr. Hammond and other FHSU representatives. Special
thanks are extended to FHSU historian, Dr. Jim Forsythe who presented
the historical perspective leading up to the actual reenactment
of Governor W.E. Stanley signing the bill which was portrayed
by Drs. Herb Songer and Larry Gould of Fort Hays State. View the

2001 Student Recognition Program
Now that the 2001 Student Recognition Program
is part of Fort Hays State University archives, the Association

part in recruiting prospective students to Fort Hays State University.

Phoenix Alumni Event
High overlooking the city light of Phoenix,
approximately 60 FHSU alumni and friends enjoyed an evening at
Rustler's Roost on top of South Mountain Resort complete with
barbecue chicken and all the fixins'. Dr. Hammond and other key
FHSU key administrators participated in the festivities with special
guest, Dr. Clay Blair, chair of the Kansas Board of Regents, bringing
a welcome on behalf of the Board. Special thanks are extended
to Bob and Caroline Rosebaugh for their support in making the

Kansas City Alumni Event
The Roar of Tiger spirit hit Kansas City on
Tues., Jan. 16, 2001. Despite the 71-56 FHSU loss to the Rockhurst
men basketball game, spirits were soaring due to the record number
of Tiger fans that came to support the Tigers at the event. Over
100 alumni and friends attended the pre-game event at Charlie
Hooper's Brookside Bar and Grill where it overflowed with Tiger
enthusiasm. Then Tiger enthusiasts cheered the Tigers on throughout
the game filling half of the Mason-Halpin Field House. Check out

Fall, 2000
Alumni Day at the State Fair
Alumni had the opportunity to meet Annette
Wiles '91, '93, the new women's basketball coach, her graduate
assistant, Shane Larsen, plus men's basketball graduate assistance,
Michael Johnette Sept. 8 at the Kansas State Fair in Hutchinson.
Many had their pictures taken with FHSU
cheerleaders and the new Tiger mascot.
Boothill Pheasant Safari
The Boothill Pheasant Safari continues to grow
and excel as 40 hunters from as far away as California, Oklahoma,
Nevada and Texas spent a fun-filled weekend November 17-19 in
Dodge City. Aside from several days of controlled hunting and
skeet shooting, the hunters along with approximately 300 Tiger
supporters, attended a banquet Saturday evening to raise scholarship
dollars for FHSU students. In its 12th year, the Boothill
Pheasant Safari has raised more than $110,000 in scholarship
dollars for students attending Fort Hays State University from
Ford and surrounding counties. And this year was without exception
as the event generated $15,000 through a silent and live auction.
An event such as this would not be possible without the leadership
of many talented individuals. Special thanks to Terry Rabe '78,
Bud Estes '68, Bob Groth '85, Jim Groth '86, Mike Miller '89 and
the many others responsible for the success of the event.
Central Kansas Alumni Event
Fort Hays State University visited Barton and
surrounding counties for the annual Central
Kansas Alumni event held in Great Bend at the Great Bend Country
Club on Sept. 16. Special FHSU guests included Dr. Edward Hammond,
coaches Annette Wiles '91, '93, Mark Johnson and Cody Bickley
'97, '00, Dr. Tom Buttery, dean of the College of Education and
Debra Prideaux '86, '92, executive alumni director. This annual
activity alternating between Great Bend and Ellinwood provided
the perfect setting for area FHSU alumni and friends to interact
and enjoy conversation with other FHSU Tigers. Special thanks
goes to Laverne Lesser '56, '61, president of the Central Kansas
Alumni Club, who organized the event along with a planning committee.
Emporia Event
Fort Hays State University alumni and friends
gathered for a pre-game celebration on Dec. 3 before the Tigers
rallied a victory on the Hornets home court. Alumni from all ages
attended the event at Bruff's
Bar and Grill, including a showing of former FHSU Student
Government representatives. Later, the Tiger section were the
loudest support area in White Auditorium as we cheered on our
team. When FHSU finally defeated ESU 81 to 62, the Tiger fans
roared with excitement!
Front Range Tiger Club
Amidst the cold, blustery wind blowing off
of the Rockies, the Front
Range Tiger Club hosted a Tiger alumni and friends barbeque
on Sept. 23 in conjunction with the Colorado School of Mines.
Those in attendance enjoyed watching the game as Tigers demolished
the Orediggers with a winning score of 27-6. Front Range Tiger
Club member Terry Nuss '70, provided the food and manpower along
with the support of David Porter '83 who provided the tent and
beverages. Joe '85 and Rhonda '85 Erdman assisted with the event.

Wichita Alumni Event
Intense hockey action capped off the evening
at the Wichita Area alumni event on March 24. Area tigers gathered
to enjoy some refreshments and comradeship before heading off
to see the Wichita Thunder take on the Topeka Scarecrows. A big
thank you to John Costello FS, for helping organize the event.

Chicago Alumni Event
Flatlanders Restaurant and Brewery was the
site of "Tiger Saturday" March 25 in Lincolnshire, IL.
A scrumptious hors d'oeuvres buffet, complete with beverages,
greeted FHSU guests as they arrived at the event. Special thanks
are extended to Scott '76, '92 and Susie '79 Soukup who served

Washington, D.C., Alumni Event
"Tiger Sunday" in Washington, D.C.,
proved to be the perfect setting for FHSU alumni and friends to
gather at the Wyndham City Center March 26. President Edward Hammond
and other FHSU representatives greeted the guests prior to several
individuals departing on a tour of the city. Washingtonian and
1970 FHSU graduate Gregg Schwarz served as host of the event.

Washington, D.C., Reenactment of Legislation
Amidst the cherry blossoms, White House tour,
sitting on the House floor, viewing the city atop the James Madison
Building and experiencing the reenactment of the signing of the
legislation forming the University, more than 70 FHSU alumni and
friends actively took part in the 100-year celebration in Washington,
D.C.

Alex Francis' 90th Birthday Celebration
Another exciting event happens at FHSU - Alex
Francis, a 1972 alumni Achievement Award recipient, was honored
for his 90th birthday in a ceremony on Jan. 22, during halftime
of the men's basketball game against Mesa State College in Gross
Memorial Coliseum. Take a look at the pictures

St. Louis
Fellow Tigers enjoyed hearing the latest campus
happenings at an alumni event on Jan. 8. Alumni and friends from
the area gathered at the Morgan
Street Brewery to visit with a variety of FHSU representatives.
Albuquerque and Phoenix
High atop the Marquette Building in downtown
Albuquerque,
FHSU alumni and friends interacted in the exclusive Petroleum
Club which offered a delightful view of the city. FHSU representatives
included President Hammond, Debra Prideaux '86, '92 and Virgil
Scott '81. Dr. George '44 and Wendie Omer hosted the Jan. 15 event.
We extend our thanks to all for your continued support. Another
successful alumni event took place Jan. 16 in Phoenix,
where alumni and friends gathered at the Fiesta Inn to hear Dr.
Hammond present the state of FHSU today. The audience enjoyed
videos of the Sternberg Museum of Natural History and the Hays
community. Special thanks are extended to Bob '68 and Carol '66
Rosebaugh who hosted the event.
McGrath Hall Razed
Through the years, McGrath Residence Hall,
built in three separate stages, served as home to numerous FHSU
male students. In dire need of repair, McGrath was closed and
it was determined to raze the facility. Demolition, originally
scheduled for the fall of 1999, has begun and is scheduled to
be completed early this year. See pictures of the demolition
in progress.

Dallas Area Alumni event
The FHSU Tigers took Dallas by storm on October
29-30 with some old-fashion fellowship and. Weekend FHSU events
included spending Friday evening at Cool
River Cafe in Irving, with Saturday filled with non-stop activities,
such as a picnic at the Dallas
Arboretum & Botanical Garden. The weekend concluded with
supper at the Nana Grill atop the 27th floor of the Wyndham Anatole
Hotel.
Kansas City Area Alumni event
On Saturday, Nov. 6, FHSU alumni and friends
of the Kansas City area were invited to join in for a fun-packed
day of Tiger spirit! The day began with lunch at the Rozzelle
Court in the Nelson-Atkins
Museum of Art, followed with a brief tour led by Lee Powers,
'70 the chair of the art department. Later, Tigers enjoyed a family-oriented
reception and dinner at the Danny Jackson's Backstop Grille with
cosmic bowling afterwards in the Incred-A-Bowl.

Pheasant Safari Banquet celebrated its 11-year anniversary
this November 19-21 at the Silver Spur Hotel and the Silver Spur
