Just the Facts!

Fort Hays State University was founded in 1902 as a public, state-supported institution and today offers 89 undergraduate, 19 graduate and 3 programs in a broad spectrum of fields. FHSU has more than 9,000 students, 295 full-tme faculty members, 273 full-time classified employees and 41,000 alumni.
  • 158 faculty members hold doctorates or terminal degrees in their fields.
  • FHSU provides a high-touch learning environment with a 17:1 student-to-faculty ratio in the classroom.
  • FHSU's current operating budget is $51,155,334 of which 66.9 percent is provided by the state of Kansas.

The FHSU Financial Planning Team has placed in the top 5 or 6 nationally consecutively for the past several years, 4th this past year.

This year, an unprecedented four Music Department Ensembles were selected to perform at the 2007 KMEA. This is a standing tribute of the quality of the program statewide.

Lines, the FHSU literary and arts journal won a national award in April 2006. The monetary award was the Literary Journal Award from the International English Honor Society, Sigma Tau Delta.
FHSU plays a vital role in Kansas and the Hays community economies, triggering economic growth and state and local tax revenues. The university offers programs that are essential to economic development, business, industry, professional, educational, financial, governmental, cultural, and service organizations in the western half of the state of Kansas.
