Applied Business Studies Student Organizations

Collegiate DECA

DECACollegiate DECA is an international organization comprised of college students and teachers in the fields of business, finance, hospitality, and marketing. Collegiate DECA prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in marketing, finance, hospitality, communication, and management through co-curricular programs that integrate classroom experiences, application of learning, and building members’ professional networks.

Collegiate DECA is open to students in all majors. Here’s why you should participate in Collegiate DECA:

  • Boost your resume. Companies look for graduates who were involved in co-curricular activities like Collegiate DECA. You might also choose to serve in a leadership position (another experience that future employers look for).
  • Build a network. Meet influential people on and off-campus. Create a network of peers you can lean on as you transition to a career.
  • Develop business skills. You’ll have the chance to compete in business-related competitions, plus you’ll meet guest speakers and go on business tours.
  • Do some good. Members participate in activities including fundraisers, philanthropy, and community service.
  • Travel. You’ll have the chance to travel to Collegiate DECA events and competitions not only in the U.S. but also internationally.
  • Earn scholarships. The more involved you are, the more scholarships become available to you.
  • Have fun. Make friends, not only on campus, but also across the country and even internationally.

Collegiate DECA prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in marketing, finance, hospitality, communication and management, through co-curricular programs that integrate classroom experiences. Apply your learning through various activities, and build a professional network you can draw on in college and when you begin your career.

Eta Sigma Delta

Eta Sigma DeltaEta Sigma Delta Honor Society recognizes hospitality and tourism students for outstanding academic achievement, meritorious service and demonstrated professionalism. The professional benefits of Eta Sigma Delta include an opportunity for outstanding students to distinguish themselves in the eyes of educators, recruiters and industry executives in an increasingly competitive industry. In addition, ESD provides a networking system through their chapters that allows for interaction and the exchange of information among students. Often, ESD meets for special events or functions at annual trade shows. An Eta Sigma Delta column regularly appears in the ICHRIE monthly newsletter as well.

THM Travel Club

The mission of the THPineappleM Travel Club is to support educational and meaningful domestic and international travel experiences for tourism and hospitality students. Members of the THM Travel Club will gain vital experience in travel planning, budgeting, organizing, and fundraising. This experience will include the complete structuring of travel plans; from selecting the most efficient form of transportation, calculating mileage, purchasing of airline tickets, travel insurance, and passport procurement. This will give students an overview of possible positions within the tourism and hospitality field. Dr. Karen Thal is the chapter sponsor; she can be reached at kithal@fhsu.edu or (785) 628-4760.
