College of Arts & Sciences

ART

  • Add online version of ART 180 Fundamentals and Appreciation of Art to our Virtual College offerings
  • Add online course in Interior Design to our Virtual College offerings

CHEMISTRY

  • Lab supervisor for CHEM 120L and CHEM 122L
  • Utilization of tablet computers in Chemistry courses

COMMUNICATION STUDIES

  • Learning to use mobile computing
  • Promote our certificate programs

ENGLISH

  • Increase the rigor of the MLS program to more closely parallel the expectations of a graduate program
  • Increase opportunities for our Writing Concentration students: Offer Writing for Publication course for the first time, expand the Internship program, and invite guest speakers who have made careers out of writing

HISTORY

  • Course approvals for US Approaches and World Approaches courses which will be used for assessment

INTERDISCIPLINARY STUDIES (MLS)

  • Complete the updating of IDS 803 lectures. Continue discussion of recording "intro to the MLS Core" tape (to be available on the Internet)

JUSTICE STUDIES

  • Distance education strategic planning (Student Advising)

MATHEMATICS AND COMPUTER SCIENCE

  • Continue to monitor use of ACT sub-scores in MATH and SCI to predict success in College Algebra.
  • Shepard the three Computer Science course proposals through the approval process

MODERN LANGUAGES

  • Develop departmental newsletter to send to alumni and donors
  • Purchase assessment instrument for placement of beginning language students and for assessment of major programs
  • Examination of curriculum of major and minor programs in all languages to decide on changes and modifications
  • Improve recruitment and retention of majors and minors
  • Approval of beginning Chinese courses for BA students and General Education credit

MUSIC

  • FY2007 Quality Initiatives will be determined at the Department of Music's Fall Strategic Planning Retreat, scheduled for August 18, 2006

PHILOSOPHY

  • Continue to fine-tune plan for improving student writing in upper-division major courses. (Continued fine-tuning and monitoring of an FY06 Initiative)
  • Remake the Virtual College version of MLS core course IDS 801 (Continuation of an FY06 Initiative)
  • Create Virtual College version of general education and major course PHIL 340 (Continuation of an FY06 Initiative)

PHYSICS

  • Develop a student alumni tracking system

POLITICAL SCIENCE

  • Continue the development and delivery of the BGS concentrations to international partners
  • Develop and begin implementation of a comprehensive marketing plan for the department

PSYCHOLOGY

  • Complete academic audit: 3 graduate degrees
  • Partial academic audit: undergraduate degree

SOCIOLOGY

  • Convert the Topics in Sociology classes to regular offerings
  • Revise Sociology curriculum to insure all required classes are offered online as well as on campus

SOCIAL WORK

  • Initiate Cohort program in Garden City, KS, effective January 2007
  • Add two Virtual College Social Work Electives: Addictions and Medical Social Work

College of Business and Leadership

ACCOUNTING AND INFORMATION SYSTEMS

  • Revive the MBA in Accounting and recruit students for the degree
  • The department will develop recruiting and retention strategies for all majors in the department
  • More faculty involved in research efforts

ECONOMICS AND FINANCE

  • Continue the departmental involvement in the Laptop Initiative of the university
  • Participate in the academic audit process
  • Continue to focus on research efforts of faculty

LEADERSHIP STUDIES

  • Develop and begin implementing an “assurance of learning” plan for the BA/BS in Organizational Leadership degree program
  • Implement new BA/BS in Organizational Leadership degree: Secure Faculty Senate approval for new courses for the Organizational Leadership curriculum

MANAGEMENT AND MARKETING

  • We still will work to returning the department to full staffing
  • Repeat the excellent year we had in the area of Scholarship

College of Education and Technology

EDUCATIONAL ADMINISTRATION AND COUNSELING

  • Complete a program self-study in compliance with the department audit to align program curriculum, instruction and assessment
  • Review the vision, mission, core values and goals of the program for the purpose of developing an action plan to revitalize the counseling program to prepare competent community and school counselors
  • Operational the satellite addictions certification program in partnership with SWPRSC and DREAM
  • Continue the program audit to map the program curriculum, conduct a gap analysis of the program curriculum, identify technology standards and applications in individual courses, and embed real-world scenarios and applications in each course
  • Operationalize the web-based program for the Principalship Degree Matrix
  • Using the model of the Principalship Degree Program, develop a web-based program for the Superintendency
  • Establish a Program-wide results-based staff development plan
  • Realign the Higher Education Administration Degree Program as a web-based degree

SPECIAL EDUCATION

  • Review and revision of program courses to better reflect current practices
  • Review and revision of selected courses and program requirements

TEACHER EDUCATION

  • The department will take a critical look at the temporary procedures developed in the new MSE degree program to guide candidates through the action research requirements
  • The department will pilot the observation and supervision of interns in the Elementary Education outreach programs through use of IPTV connections and Maratech

TECHNOLOGY STUDIES

  • Review the program for on-line courses in the BTL and the MIT programs

College of Health & Life Sciences

AGRICULTURE

  • Instructional facilities and resource upgrades

BIOLOGICAL SCIENCE

  • Development of an Environmental Health Science Degree
  • Development of research effort with The Nature Conservancy for Smoky Valley Ranch
  • Development of a cooperative effort between the Department of Biological Sciences and Barton County Community College relative to the Cheyenne Bottoms Visitor Center

COMMUNICATION DISORDERS

  • To provide financial and other supports for two to three individuals with master’s degrees to begin work on Ph.D. in communication disorders
  • Monitoring by all faculty of Team-Managed Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (T-MAKS) for all graduate students
  • The Department will participate in the Year of the Department Activities
  • Faculty will begin work toward implementation of the Council of Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology 2008 Standards for graduate programs

HEALTH AND HUMAN PERFORMANCE

  • Participation in the Year of the Department. Review of the Health Promotion/Wellness and Recreation/Sport Management degree options
  • Review of the Personal Wellness course and redevelopment of the lab component to better recognize the health needs of today’s college student
  • University Mobile Computing Initiative: Department participation in faculty laptop use. Participated as part of pilot project

NURSING

  • Helping Students Learn and Planning for continuous improvement
  • Accomplishing Distinctive Objectives: Program Growth
