Coaching Philosophy

The Student-Athlete
The success of the student-athlete comes through hard work, high goals, and a positive attitude. We must prepare through the use of consistent and proper training, as well as maintaining a healthy lifestyle.  Becoming a better athlete is the result of physical training, maintaining a goal-oriented focus in accordance to striving for excellence. The athlete should approach each upcoming season with a sense of preparation achievement.

The Coaching Staff
As coach of the cross country program, I hope to challenge student-athletes to be successful in all areas of their life. Physical development through progression is the responsibility of the coaches to challenge athletes’ physical and mental abilities. This is accomplished through strategic planning of workouts, teaching proper techniques and individualized attention given to the athletes. Psychological development of athletes is also contributed by the coaches. Educating athletes on the sport is another priority for the coaching staff. Goal-setting is also used to aid athletes in visualizing their success.

Parents/Alumni
Involvement of parents and alumni is vital to this program. Parents are critical to the student-athletes, often supplying moral and financial support. It is the alumni’s duty to stay active in the program long after leaving Fort Hays State University. This is essential for continued success. Practice is open to all parents and alumni.

Tiger Tradition
Tradition means much more than just success.  It means a continued practice of dedication to working hard and being supportive teammates.  We build on that tradition with the commitment and continuing success of the student-athletes, coaches, parents and alumni. It is this tradition that continues to support current teams and future student-athletes.  As a team that has won numerous national and conference titles, we must also dedicate ourselves to achieving those goals and ambitions.
