What People are Saying

Thousands of middle and high school instrumental students have had the opportunity to be a part of the High Plains Band Camp program. Founded in 1947 by the late Harold G. Palmer, the camp continues to offer the experience of studying music with outstanding musicians from around the country.

High Plains Band Camp and FHSU Summer Music Festival offer a week of stimulating and concentrated study in the art of music. Students experience performances by internationally recognized musicians and conductors. Additional opportunities in recreation and the social life make the camp an unforgettable lifetime experience.

Camper Comments

The faculty and staff were kind and caring people who made it easy and exciting to learn more about music. I am excited and looking forward to attending HPBC again next year.

Megan, 2007 Camper

This was my first year at the camp and I definitely want to come back next year. The guest artists and conductors were absolutely amazing and inspirational. . .I had such a good time!

Amy, 2007 Camper

. . .I really enjoyed being a part of the High Plains Band Camp. It was one of the most well-organized camps I have participated in and the kids were so into it!

Gerald, 2007 Faculty

It was apparent that a lot of time and effort went into the preparation of your camp. I brought my elderly parents along with me and they both stated that they couldn’t imagine a better concert by high school students. Katherine talked about Allen Vizutti all the way home to Kansas City and is still talking about him. What a performer!

Dave, 2007 Parent

. . .This year was an unbelievable experience for Rebecca - one she will never forget. . .to have a chance to work with David Holsinger. Dr. Jeff Jordan, Terry Crull, her sectional leader and mini class instructor. . .For the first time Rebecca actually could “feel” the music in her heart. The Rebecca we brought home on Saturday was a much different Rebecca than the one we dropped off.

Nancy, 2007 Parent

. . .Joel could not stop talking about that experience. He said he was in such awe that he wasn’t even sure what he was playing. All of the concerts that I saw on Friday and Saturday were absolutely fabulous!!
