Giant Crinoid

Immense columnal ring of an undescribed new genus and species of crinoid from the Pennsylvanian of eastern Kansas. Dan
Bennett, at right, and I are preparing a description of the new species under the name "Ultramegasupergigantocrinus pedophagus"
(etymology: from "ultramegasupergiganto-" meaning big and "crinus" meaning crinoid, and from "pedo-" meaning child and "phagus"
meaning to eat). The specific name is to acknowledge that this crinoid was so large that it could have eaten children, an observation
made by my coauthor. Unfortunately the specimen is not properly curated in a museum—shortly after this photograph was taken,
it was loaded onto a truck by persons unknown and driven off; its present location is unknown. Scale bar on pick = 30 cm.

A second, less perfect, specimen of the giant crinoid. It, too, was loaded into the truck and driven off. Note the same pick for scale.
