The Department of Biological Sciences has a long tradition of excellence and offers a broad range of program options that provide students with the flexibility to enter a variety of careers in the areas of conservation, bio-medical fields, and education. Our alumni have found careers in biology throughout the United States and the world.

Our roster of alumni includes a former governor of Kansas -- and two biology faculty, Lyman Wooster (1912-1928) and Gerald Tomanek (1947-1987), served as president of the university during their tenures at FHSU. Albertson Hall is named in honor of former department chair Fred Albertson, who served the university and its students from 1918 to 1959. This tradition of excellence continues today through our active faculty, a complete renovation of Albertson Hall (completed May 2001), and the opening of the new Sternberg Museum of Natural History (March 1999).

We encourage all prospective undergraduate and graduate students to contact us to arrange a visit with our faculty and a tour of our facilities.
