Now in its 37th year of publication, THE PRAIRIE NATURALIST fills an important role as the avenue of communication of research on the North American grasslands and their biota. This journal offers timely technical information for researchers, educators, students, and the interested public. Published each March, June, September and December, this journal reaches subscribers throughout the United States and Canada, as well as libraries in Europe and Asia. Each volume contains about 260 pages devoted mainly to articles based upon detailed scientific research. About 10% of each volume is devoted to shorter and less comprehensive communications (notes) and book reviews. The cover of each issue is illustrated with a pen-and-ink sketch of a prairie view or plains organism prepared for the journal by a wildlife artist.Manuscripts containing original material not submitted elsewhere are considered for publication; all are reviewed by specialists in relevant fields, with a rejection rate of about 30%. Style rules have been prepared by the Editor (see link below). Suggestions to contributors and a statement on editorial policy are printed annually in the March issue. An annual index is published in the last issue of the volume. Articles are abstracted in BIOLOGICAL ABSTRACTS, FISHERIES REVIEW, WILDLIFE REVIEW, and other abstract journals.
