Pre-Occupational Therapy Option
Occupational therapists help patients develop
their muscles, especially hand coordination, and make malar splints
to arrest the motion of inflamed or injured joint(s). In addition,
the OT uses the computer to analyze and remedy problems for stroke
victims. The OT designs kitchens and clothing to help disabled persons
to be as independent as possible.
Fort Hays State University offers the 51-hours prerequisite course
work for entry into the Occupational Therapy Professional School,
where the student will earn a B.S. in Occupational Therapy. Admission
into the OT professional school is very competitive. A minimum grade
point average of 3.00 on a 4.00 scale is required. Most admission
committees do NOT disregard grades made in repeated classes. Two
verification forms must be completed that document volunteer/observation
or employment for 8-clock hours in a psychiatric setting. Three
letters of reference are required. One must be from a college instructor
who has taught the applicant in a class. Specific course requirements
for the OT program at the University of Kansas Medical Center for
the current year can be found on their OT Education website. Additional
information about the program and application process can be found
on this website. Advisor: Dr.
