FHSU Budget Bulletin
Oct. 29, 2009
At a news conference in Topeka, Gov. Mark Parkinson announced that he was prepared to make allotments
(reductions in the budgets of state agencies) based on further deterioration in state revenues.
We expect to receive the October tax revenue report Friday (Oct. 30) and by the end of next week
we should receive revenue projections from the state revenue estimating group.
Current expectations indicate the state will be facing another major shortfall that will require
budget reductions to meet the state constitution mandate for a balanced budget.
At FHSU, we are prepared to respond to the anticipated reductions by using strategic planning
funds on a one-time basis. At this point, I don't expect current operating budgets to be reduced
in this fiscal year but we could lose all of our strategic planning resources.
As we learn more in the next few weeks and have a better understanding of the challenges we will
face, I may have another campus forum to discuss the scope of the problem and our response.
