~District Program Associate
Position Concept
Provide leadership to Scouting’s outreach programs in Hays to support the retention and recruitment of youth members at Elementary Schools throughout the city. This includes working from 3:30pm-5:30pm providing life skills training to these youth. Work with District Executive and community leaders on providing skills for life. This may include bringing program form the Cancer Council, Fire Department, and other resources. Outside of working with the After school Programs, work directly with District Executive on achieving Scouting’s goals in Rooks, Osborne, Ellis, Russell, Trego, and Gove Counties.

Timing
August, 2009 to May, 2010 and possibly beyond with consent from District Executive

Staff Support
Matt Stuchlik, District Executive, Wheatland/Buffalo Bill Districts

Responsibilities
1. Work directly with Wheatland/Buffalo Bill District Executive, Matt Stuchlik, to provide oversight and supplemental leadership to Scouting’s After school Programs in Hays.
2. Assist in the recruitment of additional program related volunteers to provide activities to help supplement after school program with experts.
3. Meet weekly with District Executive to discuss plans for upcoming program and other tasks as related to furthering the Scouting Program in Northwest Kansas. Maintain good communication with District Executive by phone, email, and face to face meetings on a regular basis.
4. Complete an orientation, "fast start" and "basic" training programs to familiarize yourself with the program as well as the job responsibilities expected. Work with District Executive for training on position.
5. Work with youth on supplemental recognition items including Leather Rounder and bead achievement items to track skills learned.
6. Other functions may include the following (based upon the interests, skills and availability of the intern): public relations, marketing, customer service, technology, website development, membership development, event organization, program development.

Time Commitment
Weekly: (approximately 15-20 hours per week for one or both semesters based upon a flexible schedule that provides for school priorities and conflicts such as finals, spring break, etc.) The District Executive will make sure that your school performance comes first

• 10 hours a week for providing Afterschool Program
• 2 hours a week for program planning on your own and with District Executive
• 4-8 hours a week working on additional items furthering the Scouting Program
 

Boy Scouts of America Information Booth
