~Agronomist Interns
Servi-Tech was organized in 1975 by three farmer-owned cooperatives to provide technical service for agricultural producers in southwest Kansas. In 1981, Servi-Tech expanded into northeast Colorado and into Nebraska in 1983. The 1976 crop year started with 100,000 acres under contract. Servi-Tech currently provides consulting and laboratory service to the High Plains area that produces 11 million acres of wheat, 9 million acres of corn, 5 million acres of grain sorghum and 1.2 million acres of alfalfa, 1.2 million acres of soybeans, 50,000 acres of sugarbeets and a mix of dry beans, barley, oats, potatoes, millet, sunflowers, grasses and vegetable crops.
Today, Servi-Tech provides crop consulting services to approximately 1700 farmers in seven states and 140 counties. The Crop Service Division has over 1 million acres under contract. Corn, alfalfa and soybeans represent 59%, 15% and 2.2% of our contracted acres, respectively.
Servi-Tech employs approximately 160 people, residing in 70 different communities. Our employees have degrees from 27 different colleges and universities. Servi-Tech spends approximately $60,000 per year on continuing education for its current staff to improve their technical skills. Servi-Tech has a fleet of 135 vehicles, driving approximately 3.4 million miles per year.
Each year, Servi-Tech provides $9,000 in scholarships to students working toward agronomy and other agricultural degrees at colleges and universities throughout the Great Plains.
Servi-Tech interns work with a full-time crop specialist who knows the production practices in a particular area. This provides an extensive communication system by encouraging a continuous exchange of ideas with fellow crop specialists. Full-time crop specialists involve you in a team approach to problem solving in the field. Interns also attend and participate in company meetings and training sessions aimed at the technical and practical aspects of crop production. Interns are given the opportunity to work with the world's best growers, your customers.
