| Yes, you do need to use Career
Services! We have many very beneficial services for all
of our students. You can start using our office as a freshman
by registering with Career Services, compiling a resume,
as well as checking out part-time jobs and internships.

out about part-time jobs in the Hays area? |
Jobs for Tigers is our part-time
job program. Jobs from around the Hays area are listed with
Jobs for Tigers. These jobs are posted in our office and
in the Memorial Union near the Grab 'n Go. We also have

Jobs for Tigers does not list jobs that are on-campus. Please

| Careers for Tigers allows students
to change interview times and/or cancel interviews online
through your account. Once interview schedules are closed
for processing, online transactions are not possible. If

| Yes. Former students are allowed
and welcomed to utilize the on-campus interview process. |

or do firms located in the state of Kansas offer most of
the jobs? |
| The majority of the recruiters
come from the Midwest region, particularly the state of
Kansas. We can, however, assist you in locating potential
employers in other regions. |

| Career Fairs give students the
opportunity to present their resumes and network with potential
employers who are interested in offering internships and
full time job opportunities to FHSU graduates. Students

you start looking for an internship the summer before your
junior or senior year. Some internships are also available

| An internship is a work experience,
usually in the summer, related to a student's major or area
of interest. Internships are a good way to gain some experience
in your field and see a snapshot of the industry. Internship

| The job listings are FREE for
all students and alumni. These listings are web based. |

| What does
a credential file consist of and who can establish one?
|
A typical credential file consists
of a records release authorization form, a 1-2 page resume,
an unofficial FHSU transcript, and letters of recommendation.
Alumni files, depending on when they were established may
contain a data sheet and a university course sheet instead
of a resume and transcript.
Education majors are eligible to set up a credential file.

| Is there a
fee to start a credential file or to update a credential
file? |
| There are no fees for FHSU students
and alumni that want to establish a file or want to simply
update their current files. |

| How many recommendations
should I have in my credential file and whom should they
be from? |
| Three to five current, meaningful
recommendations are sufficient for most employment situations.
Professors, colleagues, supervisors, cooperative teachers
and former employers are all excellent references. You can

Ensure you are printing off the correct form for the type
of file you have established! |

| What is mailed
to prospective employers when I request my credential file
to be sent? |
| When a credential file is requested,
your complete file is sent. This will include photocopies
of your resume, transcript, and your letters of recommendation. |

| When do I
request that my credentials be sent? |
| Your credential file should be
sent only after a prospective employer has requested your
credentials. Your file is not a substitute for a resume
and cover letter. However, when you have found a prospective
employer wanting your credential file, you can call Career
Services at 785-628-4260, fax us at 785-628-4093, email
us at careers@fhsu.edu, fill out an online credential request
form at http://www.fhsu.edu/career/credform.shtml
or send a letter with the contact name, title, address and
name of the organization. We will also need your current
address, phone number and social security number. Your credential
requests will be sent out promptly. |
