Kansas Corps is a statewide program designed to provide a pool of college student volunteers who can be mobilized to address community issues. Focusing on three areas of volunteerism, Kansas Corps recognizes the need for public action for natural disaster relief, social service needs and community development. Once these issues have been identified, Kansas Corps actively participates in meeting these needs. However, Kansas Corps strives to accomplish more than state and local community service projects. Kansas Corps seeks to ignite a passion within students for grassroots organizing, promoting citizenship and civic engagement. Therefore, the Kansas Corps is creating a new generation of Kansans, empowering them with the skills to act on behalf of the greater good.
The Call to Serve
Volunteerism is at the heart of Kansas history. Homes, civic buildings and churches built by volunteers paved the way for the development of our state. This same spirit of volunteerism is alive today, as individuals across the state have stepped up to the plate to help communities affected by weather-related disasters. This spirit must be cultivated in all Kansans. Kansas Corps seeks to isolate and develop a critical element of the Kansas population, college and university students, who will provide benefits and be benefited by serving their fellow citizens.
