“I’m here to stay
alive as a teacher.”
--Alice Reich, Regis University (“Call
and Response: Service-Learning in a Liberal Arts Curriculum.”

“The [social] crises
are real, and as educators perhaps we must be prepared to cross
some borders if we are to make a difference, stepping from behind
our lecterns, across the thresholds of our offices, past the imaginary
lines of our disciplines.”
--Eleanor Swanson, Regis University (“Incorporating
Service-Learning into Writing and Literature Classes.” Building
Community: Service-Learning in the Academic Disciplines)
Recent News
FHSU alumnus Larry Dreiling recently wrote a story in the widely
circulated farm newspaper, The High Plains Journal, about an award-winning
class designed Dr. Jean Gleichsner. In the class, students teach
area schoolchildren about farm grains. The university's Service-Learning
Committee thought that others on campus might enjoy seeing this
positive news story. I'm attaching it as an Adobe Acrobat file.
If you cannot access the attachment but would like to read the
story, just respond to this note and I'll send you a hard copy
of the story.
