Licensure in states other than Kansas
  Kansas is part of the Central States Teacher Exchange Agreement which provides for licensure between Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, South Dakota, Wisconsin and Oklahoma. A person licensed in one of these states is guaranteed a temporary two-year license in one of the other states. For licensure in other states, contact that state's teacher licensing office for specific requirements.

3 Year Certificate renewal in Kansas
  Initial certificate is valid for three years expiring on individual's birthday.
  To move from a 3-year to a 5-year certificate, individual must have verification of two or more years of accredited experience during the validity of the 3-year Kansas certificate and within the six-year period prior to application for renewal.
  Experience - If experience requirement above is not met, can renew 3-year certificate for another 3 years. Can renew based on one year of accredited experience since the issuance of the 3-year Kansas certificate and within the six-year period prior to application for renewal.
  OR
  Credit - 8 semester hours of upper-division college credit (bachelor's degree), 6 semester hours (master's or above) since the issuance of the 3-year certificate and within the six-year period prior to application for renewal.
  OR
  Inservice/credit - 80 additional inservice education points and 4 semester hours of additional recent college credit (bachelor's degree), 120 additional inservice points or a combination of hours and inservice points (master's or above).
5 Year Certificate renewal in Kansas
  Credit - 8 semester hours of upper division college credit (bachelor's degree), 6 semester hours (master's or above) within the six-year period prior to application for renewal.
  OR
  Inservice/credit - 80 additional inservice education points and 4 semester hours of additional recent college credit (bachelor's degree), 120 additional inservice points or a combination of hours and inservice points (master's or above).
  OR
  Master's or above only - Verification of three years of accredited experience during the validity of the most recent 5-year Kansas certificate and within the six-year period prior to application for renewal. This type of experience renewal may be used only twice in the applicant's career.
