M.S. in Counseling

Students who complete the 48-hour program will have a PreK-12 endorsement. To be fully endorsed, a student must have taught two years. If students have taught only one year, they must complete a one-year supervised field experience. Individuals seeking vocational education counseling endorsement must also document 4,000 clock hours of non-teaching experience.

The required 9 credits of practicum and internship are designed to give the student practical experience and preparation in professional skills, in addition to exposure to the structure of a school counseling program. Practicum requires student to complete supervised experiences that total a minimum of 100 clock hours. Internship requires students to complete supervised experiences that total a minimum of 600 clock hours. Included activities are individual counseling, group work, developmental classroom guidance, and consultation. Students are expected to buy liability experience.
