OPTIONS FOR SECONDARY LICENSURE IF HOLD BACHELOR’S DEGREE

Restricted License Options
Requirements:
- Completion of an undergraduate (bachelor's degree or higher) or graduate degree in the content area or with equivalent coursework in the area for which the restricted license is sought.
- 2.50 cumulative GPA to qualify. Graduate School also requires 2.50 GPA on last 60 hours of coursework.
- The program is only for secondary areas -- it does not include elementary education
- Must be able to qualify for full licensure in the content area in not more than three years.
- Must pass the content test by the end of the first year of teaching.
- The applicant has made appropriate progress each year towards completion of the plan to qualify for full licensure.
- Must attain 2.50 GPA each year in those courses specified in the plan for full licensure.
A. Transition to Teaching - Graduate Program (T2T GRAD)
- can be employed by any school district in Kansas
- have not completed a substantial portion of a teacher education program
- If have a major in a content area, do not need additional content coursework. If in another related area, must meet our approved program.
- 26 hours of specific graduate level on-line courses delivered in a rotation over a 2 year period. Includes 4 credit hours of practicum.
B. Transition to Teaching - Traditional Program (T2T TRAD)
- can be employed by any school district in Kansas
- completion of FHSU's professional studies courses delivered "alternatively"
- undergraduate coursework
- If have a major in a content area, do not need additional content coursework. If in another related area, must meet our approved program.
- can complete program in less than 3 years
- maximum of 6 credit hours of practicum required in lieu of 12 hours student teaching (may be less if complete the program sooner)
- typically chosen by candidates who already have a Master's degree or have taken some educational classes already.
