    Syllabus

A 10-point quiz will be given every Friday during the weeks in which there is no exam.  Problem sets will be assigned throughout the semester.  Only the ten best combined quiz and problem set scores will be used in calculating your lecture grade.

Make-up policy:  Quizzes and problem sets cannot be made up due to the excessive number which will be given during the semester.  Missed exams must be made up as soon as possible.  Missed labs must be made up within one week during a scheduled lab period or by specific arrangement with me.  All arrangements to make up missed work are the student's responsibility.

    Grading information:

Lecture:  3 exams, 100 points each 300 points
quizzes and problem sets (10 best) 100 points
               final exam 150 points
550 points

Laboratory:  13 reports, 50 points each 650 points
                     lab quiz(zes)   50 points
                     lab technique   50 points
750 points

Although class attendance and participation will not, in themselves, earn a score, regular attention to both of these areas by the student will be taken into account when numerical grades are borderline.  The same grade will be given for both lecture and lab.  Lecture will contribute 60% towards this overall grade and lab will contribute 40%.  An approximate letter-grade scale is given below, but may be adjusted as appropriate by the instructor:

88-100% A
  87-78% B
  77-68% C
  67-58% D
    0-57% U

Students in this class are expected to abide by the Fort Hays State University Academic Honesty Policy.  This policy may be found on page 61 of the Fort Hays State University 1999-2002 Catalogue.

Fort Hays State University students have the right to appeal grades that are assigned in all courses.  The appeal procedure is described on page 59 of the Fort Hays State University 1999-2002 Catalogue.
