Due September 13, 2004
-
List three physical properties that can be used to identify pure
substances.
Give a specific example of each property. As one example (which
cannot
be used for credit), boiling point is a physical property. If we
were to examine the boiling point of something we thought was water, it
should boil at 100°C. (6 points)
-
Write your first name. List the symbol and name of all
the
elements that you can produce using the letters in your name, in any
order.
(4 points)
-
Consider the following five elements: oxygen, carbon, sodium,
calcium
and nickel. Using your text or any other non-internet source available to
you,
find the major source for these elements and at least one compound that
uses the element in combined form. As one example (which cannot
be used for credit), a combined form of carbon is glucose, C6H12O6.
Cite the references you used to
complete the problem. (15 points)
