Summer Stipend for High School Student/Teacher

For the summer of 2006, I will be on sabbatical and am not accepting applications for the summer research opportunity. Please check back, as this is something I plan on doing again in the future. Below is a previous call for applicants.

As part of a grant from the National Science Foundation to conduct studies centering around glycoprotein metabolism, I can offer a stipend to an interested high school student, teacher, or student/teacher pair for participation in a summer research project.  Several research projects are available, depending on the interests and abilities of the selected individual.
The stipend of $1500 is intended to defray housing and living expenses in Hays for an eight week period.  The goal of providing this stipend is to provide valuable research experience and encourage students, particularly under-represented students, to enter science fields.

To apply for this summer research opportunity, please mail or email a letter of interest by March 30, 2002.  The letter should include a summary of science courses taken, an indication of what research might be of interest, and what the applicant hopes to achieve as a result of the support.  What I will assess when selecting someone is his/her background (sufficient science knowledge), interests, and career goals.
Sincerely,
