FAST Track is designed for community college students who are seeking a timely, efficient and reliable route for transferring credits and completing a degree at Fort Hays State University (FHSU). Your transfer to FHSU should be simple, efficient, informative and set your mind at ease. In order to meet your expectations, make the most of your academic talents and apply the university's resources in the most efficient way, we have developed "FAST Track"--a pre-transfer advising agreement that identifies the coursework you need to complete at your respective community college and FHSU.

What is FAST Track?

FAST Track is a blueprint which outlines for you the most precise route to the completion of your degree at FHSU. The goal is to put you on a fast-track toward the timely and productive completion of your academic studies. For some students, this blueprint will allow them to use the summer session and graduate in less time than normally required.

How does FAST Track work?

FAST Track is based on a "dual advisement" system. It requires collaboration among three parties: the student, an academic advisor at your community college and an advisor from FHSU. The three of you, working with a transcript analyst, will identify the coursework needed to complete your degrees/programs at your community college and FHSU. A pre-transfer advising agreement will be signed by all three parties and dual advisement files will be created and maintained by your advisors at both institutions. The pre-transfer advising agreement will provide you with a reliable blueprint that can place you in control of course selection and your academic future at FHSU. A sample of the FAST Track agreement is attached to this information brochure. Your advisor and the Office of the Registrar at FHSU can provide the specific guidelines required to complete and implement your own personal pre-transfer advising agreement.

Keep in mind that by following the FAST Track approach, you can prepare yourself for completing prerequisites necessary for other courses, establish the background for internships and sequence your coursework to take advantage of summer sessions and off-campus programming.

Does FAST Track have special requirements?

If you're on the "fast track", you must follow the recommended course of study attached to your pre-transfer advising agreement without deviation. The agreement is not a guarantee of early completion, but it will provide you with a precise and well-defined sequence of coursework that you can count on and use to finish your degrees/programs in a timely manner. Your agreement may stipulate that you attend summer session or take off-campus courses. If you indicate a desire to complete a second major, minor or field of emphasis, you may need to plan for additional semesters of study.

You may also choose a slower pace of study to maximize your academic success or participate in extracurricular activities. Beyond agreeing not to deviate from community college or FHSU course-work selected BEFORE you transfer, you must meet the following requirements:

a) meet with your assigned advisor(s) on a regular basis to discuss your progress and any adjustments to your degrees and/or program coursework. FAST Track is a system of shared responsibility. Although FHSU must provide you with the degree and courses included in the pre-transfer advising agreement or offer an appropriate exception or substitute, it is your responsibility to complete the required courses and electives as prescribed by your advisor;

b) not change or drop a course without FHSU advisor approval;

c) pass all courses included in the transfer agreement;

d) complete early registration with your FHSU advisor;

e) meet any special conditions or requirements associated with the degree(s)/program(s) selected (e.g. internship, 2.75 GPA for teacher certification, etc.)

How do I initiate FAST Track and my pre-transfer advising agreement?

If you have not completed your community college coursework or decided on an FHSU major, contact your current advisor or department chair. Your advisor will arrange a meeting with the FHSU Coordinator of Academic Advising.
