SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT:
All currently enrolled advisees will soon be getting a phone call from Austen Bickford, the new student assistant in our office. In order to be more proactive in solving issues you may have encountered thus far this semester, we will be calling with a friendly ‘check in’ to see if there is anything with which we can be of assistance. Austen is a BBA-Management Junior who has taken both on-campus and online courses, and he will be able to assist you with common questions/problems you may have.

REMINDER:
You will be required to complete a phone advising appointment prior to course approval for summer and fall pre-enrollment. Please continue to plan on completing this 15-minute appointment. These phone appointments will start being scheduled in late February/early March.

HELPFUL ENROLLMENT ADVICE:

  • Because Virtual College students often require a different method of communication, I have recently created ‘Advising Pod Casts’ to answer some common questions about enrollment. These 3-minute audio files discuss (1) getting into closed courses, (2) transfer courses, and (3) beginning the enrollment process. Listen here: http://www.fhsu.edu/cob/podcast.shtml
  • Pre-enrollment for summer and fall semesters will begin in March/April, depending on your classification. Find your pre-enrollment date(s) here: http://www.fhsu.edu/registrar/S2008Cal.shtml . You get a small window of time to pre-enroll, so it’s important to not miss your opportunity and risk not getting into classes you need.

USEFUL ACADEMIC SUCCESS ADVICE

  • CLEP is a national credit-by-examination program that allows students to gain college credit for passing a specific subject area test. Each of the 34 CLEP examinations is administered on computer. For example, did you take a College Algebra or History class at a previous college, but it didn’t transfer in to FHSU, and you feel you could test out of the course? The CLEP test may be for you: http://www.fhsu.edu/kellycenter/testing/clepcredit.shtml
  • It’s tax season! Which means it’s also that time of the year to apply for federal financial aid (FAFSA). You have to re-apply each year, and the earlier, the better. Learn more about the FAFSA form here: http://www.fhsu.edu/finaid/08-09gettingstarted.shtml

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q. I have such a hard time remembering to check my FHSU.edu email address. Can I have it forwarded to my hotmail.com account?

A. Yes, however, we can’t guarantee technical support if you choose to do so. Your FHSU email account is the official line of e-communication, and you are responsible for the information sent to that account. Learn more about forwarding your email here: http://www.fhsu.edu/ctc/helpdesk/forwardscatcat.shtml
