Faculty, students take research trip to China

Professors Anthony Gabel and Justin Evans conducted a two-week research trip to China in January 2014. The professors' research explores the role of law in international business strategy. Professors Gabel and Evans were accompanied by five students, including two undergraduates and one graduate student from the COBE: Matthew Whitmore (Finance), Amanda Groff (Finance), and Aaron York (MBA candidate). The group interviewed senior managers and attorneys in Shanghai and Beijing to collect information concerning the law's integration into foreign firms' strategies in the Chinese market. Students learned how to conduct academic research, collect qualitative data, and conduct interviews, enjoyed meeting with executive-level professionals, learned about several international companies and industries in China, and experienced some of China's most celebrated cultural offerings. Several of the students' travel was funded by the FHSU Undergraduate Research Experience. The group was also grateful to receive funding from the offices of the FHSU Provost, the COBE Dean, and the Department of Management and Marketing.
