Effective Presentation Skills

Overview:

Have you been on the giving or receiving end of presentations which have killed audience enthusiasm, lowered interest in the subject, and been boring? Participants at this workshop will learn how to create and deliver engaging presentations. Familiarize yourself with effective public speaking skills including organizing and planning presentations, using effective verbal and nonverbal delivery, managing public speaking anxiety, and implementing best practices for creating and using visual aids. Participants will have an opportunity to practice these skills and receive feedback on their presentation styles and designs from the presenter. Participants are encouraged to bring a laptop computer.

  • Recognize and practice effective verbal and nonverbal delivery in presentations
  • Implement effective presentation structures
  • Identify and utilize presentation aids effectively
  • Avoid common mistakes in presentation design

Facilitator:

Facilitated by Dr. Rose Helens-Hart, Assistant Professor in the FHSU Department of Applied Business Studies.

Dr. Helens-Hart has over 15 years of experience participating and coaching competitive speech and debate and has been teaching communication skills for eight years at the collegiate level. She enjoys training, consulting, and assisting people in pursuing their professional communication goals.
She earned a Ph.D. in organizational communication from the University of Kansas, a Master’s in International Studies from the North Carolina State University, and a B.A. in Journalism and Public Communication.
