Project Management Essentials

This workshop is a two-day seminar offered in partnership with Wichita State University’s Center for Management Development.
As a Project Manager you understand the need for tools to help coordinate, plan, execute and complete projects on-time and on-budget.  This program will provide you with hands-on experience and real life applications for many of the widely recognized project management methods in business including:  Work breakdown, critical path technique, and earned value management.

Key Process steps are practiced through team exercises, allowing participants to understand how, when and why they should be used.  You are sure to come away from this seminar better prepared to confidently manage projects from small to large using the most effective techniques available. 

Participants will learn:

  • An overview of the knowledge areas and process groups in the PMBOK® Guide
  • Roles and expectations for project managers, sponsors and team members
  • Getting started: Project charter, stakeholder analysis
  • Managing scope: Work breakdown structure
  • Managing time: Network diagram, critical path, responsibility assignment
  • Managing cost: Time phased budget, earned value management
  • Managing quality, risk and procurement: Processes and tools
  • Managing communication:  Reporting and meetings
  • Managing and developing the project team: Diversity, motivation, conflict and influencing
  • Create and execute a project plan
  • Closing a project


Ms. DeAnn Sullivan, PMP, a certified trainer from the Project Management Institute, Inc.  Ms. Sullivan has 33 years management experience with AT&T, is a certified Project Management Professional and holds a Master's Certificate in Project Management.  She travels across the Unites State providing business and project management consulting.
