| Internship
and Mentoring Programs
This internship program is a collaborative
effort between the College of Business and Leadership and the Office
of Career Services at FHSU. This program is a short-term work experience,
preferably in the summer, designed to offer students the opportunity
to gain valuable career-related experience.
This initiative helps students make connections between in-class
learning and the practical, hands-on world of work. These experiences
may be paid or unpaid. The focus is on learning-by-doing.
These internship assignments are meaningful. Students will be matched
with a responsibility that encompassed their college major or be
given the task of creating and executing improvement projects.
Students at College of Business and Leadership
will have access to two types of internships:
- Academic Internships are taken for credit,
approved and sponsored by a faculty member, and include at least
one academic component such as a project, a final paper or a seminar.
They often take place during a spring or fall semester and can
be taken in conjunction with other classes. These internships
can be taken with the approval of a sponsoring faculty member.
- Noncredit internships do not involve credit and
do not require faculty participation. They generally occur in
the summer, or when the College is not in session, and there is
not generally an academic component such as a required project
or paper.
In addition to the opportunities available through
the Management Development Center, students can also access InternConnect
provided by the Hays Chamber of
Commerce
Implementations
College of Business and Leadership organizes,
through the Office of Career Services, internships-preparation seminars.
In these seminars, students are able to develop their professional
portfolios. These portfolios will include copies of resume, cover
letter, list of references, list of skills, letters of recommendations,
and other pertinent documents related to internship activities.
Students who successfully complete these seminars
will contact the Office of Career Services to secure an interview
with organizations that are seeking interns. Students are then assigned
to a faculty advisor who will supervise their internship activities.
Students will be required to complete an internship-expectation
report at end of the internship assignment.
