On Saturday, May 4th, 2013, the first annual Run/Walk to Help Children Talk was hosted by students of the National Student Speech-Language-Hearing Association at Fort Hays State University and faculty and staff of the Geneva Herndon Speech-Language-Hearing Clinic. This event was hosted in conjunction with the Scottish Rite Masons from the Valley of Salina, Orient of Kansas. Proceeds from the event will support student scholarships and clinic materials. There were 50 participants who ran and walked the 3K course throughout the Fort Hays State University campus. Prizes were awarded for the top three female and male runners as well as the top three walkers. These individuals are as follows: Female Runners 1)Tabitha Brandel, 2) Macayla Kent , 3) Sarah Tajchman; Male Runners 1) Michael Brandel, 2)Blake Roth, 3) Neal Giebler; and walkers 1)Mary Claiborne, 2) Rick Claiborn and 3) Anthony Taylor. Approximately 20 students majoring in speech-language pathology volunteered their time and talents for the event. Following the Run/Walk, a lunch for Scottish Rite visitors was held. Those present were Don and Beverley Hamilton, Jim and Carol Winn, Nadine Gabel, all from Salina, Henry Burmeister, Holyrood, and Brad Boyer, Hays.
