Difficulties can range from a child who produces a single sound incorrectly to an adult who has suffered from a stroke and is now unable to produce many sounds accurately as a result of weakness or change in tone of muscles (i.e., dysarthria) or motor planning of movements (i.e., apraxia of speech).
