The following lists the suggested academic preparation for the educational setting.

Academic Preparation for Educational Setting:
The following coursework is suggested for SLPs who are going to be working within the public schools. Although Kansas does not require this coursework, many states continue to require specific academic preparation for the school setting. This coursework can be taken as a component of the undergraduate program or graduate program. Equivalent coursework, as assessed by the graduate student's advisor, which has been completed at another university may be substituted for these courses.

The graduate program in speech-language pathology in the Department of Communication Disorders at Fort Hays State University is nationally accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). The Department prepares students for clinical certification by ASHA and professional Licensure by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment.
