Geneva Herndon Speech-Language-Hearing Clinic Albertson Hall, Room 131
(785) 628-5366
Since
1954, the Herndon Speech-Language-Hearing Clinic at Fort Hays State
University has accepted a dual mission of providing comprehensive
services in speech, language, and hearing as well as professional
clinical training for upper level and graduate students majoring
in speech-language pathology. The clinical services moved to Albertson
Hall on the FHSU campus in June, 2000. The clinic is named in honor
of Dr. Geneva Herndon, founder of the Communication Disorders Program.
As the only university affiliated clinic in western Kansas, it accepts
the responsibility of meeting the needs of individuals with communication
impairments from this broad geographic area. Nationally certified
and licensed faculty in the areas of speech-language pathology and
audiology supervise student clinicians as they provide wide-ranging
diagnostic, early intervention, and rehabilitative services.

The Herndon Clinic has recently been named as a RiteCare® Clinic, sponsored by the Scottish Rite Foundation of Kansas. There are 170 RiteCare® clinics, centers, and special programs operating or planned for children located throughout the United States. These clinics have a focus on serving children who have difficulty with listening, speaking, and literacy skills. Please contact the Herndon Clinic for more information at 785-628-5366.

Audiology
Services: Screening and diagnostic audiological evaluations are performed
in a fully equipped clinic. The results of an audiological evaluation
determine the type and degree of hearing loss, and provide the basis
for personal counseling about hearing loss. Whether
a loss of hearing is identified at birth or acquired later in life,
services are available to help persons of any age build or maintain
their communication skills.
Aural Habilitation--Rehabilitation:
An adult aural rehabilitation program is offered
to provide individual instruction in visual communication (lip reading),
auditory training, use of hearing aids, and psychology of hearing
loss. This is a community program which benefits many residents
of western Kansas with hearing loss.
