Department of Communication Disorders

National Student Speech Language Hearing Association

A local chapter of NSSLHA consists of undergraduate and graduate students interested in human communication sciences and disorders and the profession of Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology.

The purpose of the Fort Hays State chapter is:

  1. To encourage professional interest among college and university students in the study of normal and disordered human communication behavior.
  2. To assist college and university departments and local organizations interested in speech, hearing, and language behavior and disorders.
  3. To provide professional information.
  4. To provide a vehicle for student representation in matters of professional concern.
The benefits of belonging are:
  • official recognition by NSSLHA
  • education enhancement
  • exposure to professionals in human communication sciences and disorders and other related fields
  • participation in a pre-professional organization
  • current information pertaining to events on the local, state, and national levels
  • provides an opportunity for student input to ASHA's Legislative Council through two Regional Councilors participation in that body

NSSLHA is the student organization at Fort Hays State University for students in the Communication Disorders Department.  It is involved in many school and community activities and is an excellent way to meet other students and the faculty in our department.
