Background
Linn Ann Huntington, award-winning author, newspaper columnist and educator, has been the Director of Journalism at Fort Hays State University since 1990.  She oversees a program that includes print and web journalism, public relations and advertising.

Huntington received her BA in Journalism in 1975 and her MA in Journalism and Mass Communication in 1984, both from the University of Oklahoma.  For six years she served as an editor and reporter for The Daily Oklahoman and the Oklahoma City Times.  She served as an instructor of journalism and professional writing at Cameron University (Lawton, OK) for five years before coming to FHSU in the fall of 1990.

Huntington is the author of dozens of newspaper and magazine articles, and for five years was a “Local Voices” columnist for The Hays Daily News.  She has won awards for both her non-fiction and fiction writing and has been a contributor to two books.  Her short fiction piece, “The Fourth Wise Man,” was published in Guideposts for the Spirit (Ideals Publications, 2001).  One of her newspaper columns was reprinted in the book, Women and Success (a celebration of truth), (Southern Story Telling Productions, 2007).

Huntington has 18 years experience as a student publications adviser on the collegiate level, including 13 years as adviser to The University Leader student newspaper at FHSU.  In 2002, the National Federation of Press Women awarded her second place in the nation as Faculty Adviser of the Year.  “That award, more than any other,” she says,  “is the one I cherish the most.”
