Journalism Emphasis
in Communication Studies
Journalism students train on computerized typesetting
equipment and learn the techniques of successful reporting, editing
and management. Two award-winning publications, the University
Leader, a twice-weekly campus newspaper, and the Reveille yearbook
provide valuable hands-on learning experiences that prepare you
for work in the print media. The Fort Hays State Journalism program
emphasizes learning by doing. Therefore, students do not have to
wait until their junior or senior year to win a spot on the staffs.
We have many staff members who are freshmen. Internships, which
provide excellent contact with career opportunities in journalism
as well as practical real-life experiences, also are available.
In
addition, our journalism instructors have worked
in newsrooms, darkrooms, and advertising agencies out in the real
world. Their teaching, therefore, combines the theoretical with
the practical aspects of real-life journalism. We think that is
important.
If you have further questions or would
like to schedule a campus visit to learn more about how we can
help
you prepare for your future in journalism, contact:
