Background
Sue Strohkirch received her Ph.D. in Speech Communication from the University of Washington, Seattle, WA in 1988. She joined the Communication Studies Department in 1994. Her areas of specialization are Communication Theory, Communication Education, and Interpersonal Communication. Dr. Strohkirch directs the Basic Course (COMM 100 Fundamentals of Oral Communication, including supervising graduate teaching assistants. In addition, Dr. Strohkirch is the departmental liaison for secondary teaching candidates in Speech and Theatre.

Dr. Strohkirch was named “Outstanding College Teacher” in 2002 by the Kansas Speech Communication Association. In 2006 a co-authored paper (Dr. Crawford and Dr. Strohkirch) received the Top Paper Award from the Organizational and Professional Communication Interest Group of the Central States Communication Association.

Dr. Strohkirch’s research areas most recently include: the role of communication apprehension (CA) in predicitng knowledge management abilities; CA and the willingness to accept innovation; CA in the speech classroom; gender issues in the classroom; and teacher credibility.
