How can I find a student on Blackboard?

Tips for Faculty for locating students in Blackboard:

  • Students are added to Blackboard after completing enrollment at FHSU, according to a processing schedule. You may need to wait a day or two before adding new students who recently enrolled for the first time.
  • To enroll a student in a course , click on the Welcome tab. Then, under My Courses, click on the course you wish to work with. Click on Control Panel and select Enroll User. You may search by last name, username, or e-mail address. We recommend using the Username option (make sure to click the Username button below the search window before clicking Search). A student's username can be found on CICS Student Screen 12 or by using the Directory Search located on the TigerTracks home page. The TigerTracks username is the first portion of the student's FHSU E-Mail Address (Scatcat address).
  • If a student has already been added to your class in Blackboard; the student will not be displayed in the Enroll User Search. To view the list of students currently enrolled in your course, go to the Control Panel and select List Modify Users.
  • If you cannot find a student when searching by last name, there is a possibility that a student's name has been changed on the student's official student record on CICS, and Blackboard has not yet been updated. Try searching for the student in Blackboard using the TigerTracks username or the Maiden name (available on CICS Student Screen 12). To search by username, make sure to click the Username button below the search window before clicking Search. The TigerTracks username is the first portion of the student's FHSU E-Mail Address (Scatcat address).

Students say my content or test isn't visible. What should I do?

It is possible the content is set to be unavailable or a time limit to view the material has passed. Go to your Control Panel. Find the area where the content is saved and check to see if the icon is grayed out or seems faint. If the item is grayed out it will not be available for students to see or access.

To change the availability, click the Modify button to the right of the item. Scroll down to the options and change the availability to Yes. If the time limit has expired, uncheck the date restrictions for the item or reset the date for the current semester. Sometimes using dates (other than for testing) makes content more difficult to manage from semester to semester. When finished, click the Submit button; your item will then be available to students.

How do I remove all the students at the end of the semester?

From the Control Panel, click Recycle Course. Select Users and submit the form. The Recycle Course option appears in the Course Options section of the Control Panel.

How do I automatically add students to Blackboard?

A request form is available at www.fhsu.edu/ctelt/bbenrollment for a few weeks before the beginning of every semester. An email announcement is sent to all Blackboard instructors when the form is activated for the upcoming semester. Unfortunately CTELT is unable to accept new automatic enrollment requests once the semester has started.
